夏木マリとホクロの行方

「ああ、そんなのだったら、５分だよ。２千円もしないんじゃない？
保険使えるし・・ レーザーだから少し焦げる匂いはするけど、
すぐとれちゃうよ。」
その言葉を受け、鼻の下のとても小さなホクロを取った事が私はある。
時は、丁度２０００年から２００１年を迎えようとしていた年末
世の中的には未来輝く「２１世紀」より「世紀末」の言葉が蔓延し、
ちょっとした占いブーム。
やたらとテレビやら雑誌で特集が組まれていた。
占いは信じる方でもなければ、全く信じないという訳でもない。
いわゆる中立派の私にとって、どうでもいい特集であった。
当時の私は、飛ばず咲かずの売れないアーティストであり絵本作家。
必ずと言っていい程、やる事なす事、最初は絶好調。ところが
最後で倒産されたり、持ち逃げされたり。何かとうまくなかった。
最初が調子いいだけに、その落胆ったら無かった。
そんな中、あるプロジェクトがうまく行き、お祝いがてら仲間と
何故だか大宮の屋台で一杯やっていく事になった。大宮で呑むのは初めてで、散々悩んだあげく雑多な歓楽街の外れにある、おでんの屋台に潜り込んだ。
「あなた、好きな事やりなさい・・・」
呑み始めて２０分、我々の会話をぶった切り、私の隣でぶつぶつ言いながら独りで呑んでいた怪しい風貌の熟女が突然我々に向かって、ドスの利いたハスキーな声でそう言った。
夏木マリの出来損ないのようなその熟女は、サッポロビールのマークが印字されたコップにつがれた日本酒をじっと見ながら続けた。
「持って１０年だから・・・」
大宮の屋台は、にわかにヒートアップしはじめた。
ダムが決壊したかのように怒濤のしゃべりが我々に浴びせられた。
しきりに一緒にいた相方の事を占っている。過去の様々な事、コレからの事。
彼とは付き合いも長く、よく知っているだけに、その夏木マリの占いが当たっているのか外れているか容易に計り知れた。そのあげくに「持って10年」だ。失礼な話だ・・・が、当たっているだけに気持ち悪い。
「じゃ、こいつはどうなんだよっ！」
いつも、ベランメーな相方も流石に当たっていると思ったらしく、言い返す言葉も無く消化不良ながらも話をすり替え、ほこ先を私に振る。
しばらくじっと私を見つめ
「あなたは いいわ〜。 ・・凄くいい。 ちょっと触らせて。」
と私の体を触ってきた。荒手の痴漢行為だ。
「でも、ひとつだけ。 あなたいいところまで行くけど必ず、障害があって、先に進めなくなっちゃうんじゃない？ それ、何のせいか解る？その、ホクロ。
ホクロよ。鼻の下の小さいヤツ。それが原因なの。」
私の鼻の下を必要に指差し、そう断言。
私の事も根掘り葉掘り占い、しまいには当時産まれたばかりの子供がいた私に、生命を最近宿した事を見事当て、怖くなった。
相方は、私の占いが良かったのが相当面白くないようで、更に熱くなり、屋台を先に出て行ってしまった。
その日以降、不思議なくらい必要に「ホクロ」ネタが様々なシーンで会話に登場した。いつもあっている人がいきなり、「実は占いが出来て・・」なんて言い出し、最後には私のホクロに行き着く。
有名な占い師に診てもらっても最後に行き着くのは「ホクロ」であった。
そんな繰り返しから、ホクロを取る気なんてみじんもなかった私であったが、ここまでくると流石に考えるようになっていた。
世の中もノストラダムスに当てられる事無く、世界は無事２１世紀を迎える事ができた１月のある日、始終出入りしている会社の部長と出入り口の階段のところでバッタリ会った。
部長は中年には異様な位、大きなバンソウコを頬に貼っていた。
つっこむと、バツの悪そうにその事を話してくれた。
どうやら部長の左頬には大きなシミがあって、本人的にずっと気になっていたらしく、たまたま近所に保険の効く皮膚科があった事を知ってそこで安く取ったというのだ。
慌てて、私もコレまでの「ホクロ」ネタを話すと
少し茨城のなまりが入る独特の口調で
「ああ、そんなのだったら、５分だよ。２千円もしないんじゃない？
保険使えるし・・ レーザーだから少し焦げる匂いはするけど、
すぐとれちゃうよ。」
二日後、私の鼻の下のホクロは1500円のレーザーで焼かれ、姿を消した。
その一ヶ月後、出版社と新しい本の契約が決まり、前作の韓国版出版も決定。その仕事は順調に回り始めた。
あれから五年。夏木マリの言葉が当たるときが間々ある。
占い信仰度は並の私だがアノときばかりは不思議だったし、信じる他なかったし、信じてよかった。
しかし、このホクロネタの最大のポイント「持って１０年」の相方にある。
彼は相変わらず夜の疾走を続けている。
絶対当たらないであろう、インドの占いロボットを見て思う。
レーザーで焼かれたホクロは何処に行ったのであろう。
そして、相方は何処へ行くのだろう？
