ビー玉と傾き
【クローリー/英国 15日 AFP】14日、毎年恒例のビー玉世界選手権（World Marble Championships）がクローリー（Crawley）で開催された。イギリスでは伝統的なゲームであり趣味として愛されるビー玉に魅了されて、ウェスト・サセックス（West Sussex）州のグレーハウンドパブ（Greyhound Pub）で開かれるこの一風変わった競技会には、毎年数百人の人々が集まる。写真は、競技に参加するドイツ人のGabi Muhlischさん。(c)AFP/CARL DE SOUZA
ビー玉が勢いよく転がる家・・・・。それが私の住む家。
わが家は築三十年超えのハイパーボロ家。 「すきま風」等は当たり前。
「防寒」と言うより「暴寒」。「防音」と言うより「放音」。
とにかく寒くて狭くて音が突き抜けで、おまけに傾いている。
イタリアのピサの斜塔さながらのダイナミックな傾き。このまま傾けば入場料だって夢じゃない。二階のアトリエにビー玉を置けば音速並みにシャーーーーっと音をたて勢いよく走る。
隣の家のテレビ音が自分の家のテレビ音かと思い、消しに行く事も日常茶飯事。
朝の新聞配達にいたっては特撮モノのアクションシーンさながらに細い折れ曲がったわが家の階段をブンブンビンビ〜〜ンと寝室まで登ってくんじゃないかと錯覚するくらいエキサイティングな音が家中に轟く。
日々刺激をくれる。 そんな家である。
それにしても、ビー玉世界選手権ってのがあるのは知らなかった。
ルール等が描かれていないが、イギリスでは伝統的なゲームで、趣味として愛されるビー玉に魅了された「ビー玉愛好家」がクローリー（Crawley）に年に一回集結するんだとか・・・
しかし、不思議とあの、安っちくキラキラと輝く「ビー玉」が子供心に妙に郷愁を誘われ、やたらめったら集めた物だった。
郷愁を誘いながらもあの大きさにはめ心がうずき、よく鼻に詰めて取れなくなり、ビー玉を親から取り上げられたこともあった。
シチューに入れ、ばあちゃんの入れ歯を破損させたこともあった。
雨戸の溝を利用してガンガン走らせ、そのままにして雨樋に「ビー玉」が偉いたまり、雨戸が入らなくなったこともあった。
100や200どころじゃ無かった気がするが、あれだけあった「ビー玉」はどこにいったのだろう？私の成長と共に、親が何処かに捨てたか、取ってあるのか定かではないが、いずれにしろ私の幼少期を彩った、大切な「宝物」であったことは間違いない。
ビー玉っていうとどこか日本的で、ラムネやらなんやらから、昭和初期のイメージがするが、イギリスの伝統的なゲームとは・・・・
キラキラと光る球体、「ビー玉」
同じ球体でもキラキラを失いつつある、地球に輝きを取り戻すことはできるのであろうか？
ビー玉の転がるスピードを見て思う。
僕の家は何処まで傾くのであろう？
そして地球はどこまで傾くのだろう。
傾いた地球に、僕は何が出来るのであろう？

ビー玉って名前気になって調べて見ました。
ビー玉の語源は、「ビードロ（vidro,ポルトガル語でガラス）玉」の略。 また、ビー玉は「B玉」から来ており、ラムネビンの栓として使用できるものを「A玉」、規格に合わないものを「B玉」と呼んだ。それを子供のおもちゃとして転用したのが始まりという説もあるが、現在では雑学本に書かれたガセネタとするのが一般的である。
だそうです。
昔ラムネびんの取りたくて、びんの口に下入れて詰まらせて抜けなくなりそうで死にそうになった。まるでハチミツ食べたいプーさんみたいだ。
最近、太って体がプーさんだ。クレヨンしんちゃんではないです。
