母の財布とインベーダー （前編）

お金を盗んだ事がある。
小学三年の春。
友人「藤本」と私は、当時やたら一世を風靡していた「インベーダーゲーム」に例外に漏れずハマっていた。
大人は喫茶店のテーブル型テレビゲームにかじりつき、くしゃくしゃになったセブンスターとアルミの灰皿、反対側の端っこにゲーム画面をよけるようにコーヒーと百円玉を次の順番をあきらめさせるかのようにうず高く積み上げ、夢中になっていたものだ。
そして、その頃、子供の我々は近くの駄菓子屋の端っこに設置されたスタンド型テレビゲームの周りに集まり、金回り良く何度も繰り返しお金をつっこむ金持ち息子のゲーム展開に群がった。そして、そいつが市の指定の帰りのチャイムが鳴って帰ると貧乏人の我々はデモンストレーション画面をまるで自分が操ってるかのごとくジョイスティックでガチャガチャやったものだった。
「イケップ、金 何とかなりそうだ、しかもでかいぞ」
放課後の非常階段で藤本が薄気味悪い笑顔で私にそう言う。
当時、小遣い１週間１００円だった私にとって、インベーダーゲームは高値の華。
無計画の私は小遣いを貰うや否や、駄菓子屋に走り、その百円を惜しげもなく一発で使っちまい、UFOが出現して狙う事に集中しすぎて速攻撃破され、その一週間を極限の貧困状態で過ごす事も珍しくなかった。
「ゲーセン」いわゆるゲームセンターと言う奴がまだその頃は形がはっきりしておらず、あったとしても居抜きの１０坪程の店舗にテーブルタイプのゲームを10台程設置した、いい加減なものだった。そしていつしかそこは不良のたまり場となり学校で入店すら禁止が普通となっていた。
そんな私に藤本は「金ができた」と言う。
小学生にして様々な「悪」を重ねて来た私にとって、「金ができた」は
まさにエキサイティングな響きであった。
「どこにある？その金」
Gメンの悪役気取りで声のトーンを落として訪ねる。
放課後の非常階段。西日を浴びながら藤本の計画を聞く。
彼の計画はこうだ。
藤本家は工場の経営をしている。そして彼の家はその工場の敷地内にあり母親もそこで事務の手伝いをしている。母親は昼に一度帰ってくるが、財布を自宅において事務所に午後三時には仕事に戻る。再び帰宅するのは午後六時。
藤本はこの午後の三時間の間に母親の財布から一万円を抜き取ろうと言うのだ。
ま、一万円が無くなった財布のその後等全く考えない、子供が考えそうなシンプルなプランだ。しかし、１００円坊主の私にとっては、その一万という額が検討も着かなかったが、目的はお金では無く、ゲームであったので何十回でもインベーダーが出来るって事が私の創造をMAXに広げ、壮大に期待は膨らんだ。
犯行は次の日決行された。
工場の門を抜け右手に二階建てのプレハブ。そこが恐らく事務所であり、藤本の母親がまさに今、働いている現場である。
日産の部品を扱う工場はその先の大きな建物で、その脇を車一台が通れるのがやっとといった敷地内の道を抜けると従業員が主に利用する駐車場。駐車場内に敷地内で最も立派な白塗りの大きな大豪邸が社員達に威圧感満載で君臨していた。
藤本の自宅である。
藤本と私はチャリンコで家の門まで到達すると、チャリンコを横倒しにしてひっそりとした大きな玄関に、誰かに気づかれないように、そ〜っと、入った。
大理石で出来た玄関はとても広く、大きな絵と、大きな下駄箱と、そして高そうな壷がおかれていた。私は藤本の後ろにピッタリと着いて、その重苦しい静寂にドキドキしながら母親が戻らない事を祈りながらアシックスのスニーカーを脱いで上がり込んだ。
ターゲットの藤本の母親の財布目指してリビングに向かう。
黒い革張りのソファー。当時にしてはやたら大きなテレビを挟むようにガラスと大理石で出来たリビングテーブル。その上に金色のクラウン。ミニチュアの金色のおもちゃの先端には銀色の突起物がアリ、興味深く覗き込んでいると
「あ、それライターだよ。ほれ」
カチッとその横のボタンのような物を藤本が軽く押すと
ボッ
クラウンの天井から炎があらわれた。
藤本の家には何度も来ているが、くる度に何か新しいものを見つける。
コンバトラーVの超合金が全部そろって合体できるセットもしっかり自慢されビデオレコーダー等という物も初めて見たのは彼の家だったし、金髪のプレイボーイ誌に慌てたのも彼の家でだった。
「イケップあったぞ！」
リビングボードの一番上の引き出しから茶色い金の留め金をした財布を高々とあげ、私にそう言った。
静寂の中、声を押し殺しながらも強い口調でそういった。
私はクラウンの火を抱えながら、汗ばんだ唾を飲み込んだ

僕も昔、友達がお店やってて親に内緒でレジからお金とっていたのを思い出しました。そしてビックリマンチョコをすごくいっぱい買ってました。
うらやましかった。
池谷さんが週に１００円ももらってたのも
うらやましい。
僕は中学までおこずかいもらえなかったです。
だから公園で遊んでても缶ジュース買ってる友達がうらやましかったのです。
