母の財布とインベーダー （後編）

「イケップあったぞ！」
リビングボードの一番上の引き出しから茶色い金の留め金をした財布を高々とあげ、私にそう言った。
重厚なソファーにふたりで寄り添って座り、中身をドキドキで開けてみた。
「１・２・３・・・７・８・・・ １２」
「一万円札１２枚もあるぜ！」ボルテージが上がる藤本
「大丈夫なのかよ？」一応、気弱にモラルを問う私
「がははっははっははは だってよ〜イケップ、こんなにいっぱい一万円があるんだから一枚や二枚盗ったってわかりゃ〜しないってっ ！」
政治家かお前はってくらい、大きな高笑いと威圧感で私の肩をなんども叩いた。
「じゃ、ごっつあんです！」
藤本はそういって財布に向かって右手で軽く拝んで一枚の聖徳太子を抜取った。
迅速に財布をもとの位置に戻すと、大理石玄関からアシックスを履いて横たわったチャリンコにまたがり、藤本家を後にし、我々は一路ゲーセンへ向かった。
人のお金を盗んだ罪悪感とインベーダーのピュキュンピュキュンのゲーム音が入り交じって、私の背中を鉛色の蛇が這い回っていた。
公共団地のはずれに、最近出来たゲーセンがあった。
そこに着くと、チャリを止め、入るとウエルカムのベルが鳴る寺島とカッティングシートで印字されたスモークのガラス扉を開けようとした。
「買い物してから入ろう。」藤本が突然そう言った。
公共団地の仲通り沿いに出来損ないの商店街が有ってその一角がこのゲーセン「寺島」。そのすぐ隣には金物屋となっていた。
藤本は迷わずその店に入った。慌てて私もその後を追う。
「母ちゃん、確かフライパンって言ったっけ？」
店内に入るなり、大きな声で妙な小芝居が始まった。
？？？
小さな店内をくるくる回りながら
「無いな〜 フライパン」と相変わらずでかい声で私に、そして店員に語りかける。
私はやっとピンときた。
藤本は小学校三年生の所持金にしては大きすぎる一万円をゲーセンで両替し怪しまれる事を恐れ、その回避策として隣の金物屋で「親から頼まれたアイテム」を購入する事で、スムーズに両替をし、おつりでしこたまゲームをしようって計画なんだ。
取って着けたように
「ああ、フライパンね〜 フ・ラ・イ・パン。」私の猿芝居も加わる。
「あ、これじゃない？」私が手にしたのはフッ素加工のどでかく赤い底のフライパンだった。
「あ、それそれ！あったじゃ〜ん」大喜びの我々。
そんな、我々の小芝居を全く気にせず中村玉緒似の店主はレジカウンターの横に置かれた小さなテレビでUHFを観ながらキセルでタバコをふかしていた。
レジ迄フライパンを持って行き、あさっての方向でテレビを観る玉緒に渡す。
レジのマシーンを使わずにそろばんで弾き、テレビを観ながら値段を言った。
「・・・八千六百円ね」
意味が分からなかった。
「持ってるの？ 八千六百円だよっ？ あるのかい？」
ババアは先ほどのテレビ観戦とは打って変わって、立ちすくむ我々に牙を剥く。
藤本が私に眼をやる。
私はあごで、「早く」を言って支払いを促した。
渋々藤本はデニムの半ズボンのポケットから、くしゃくしゃになった一万円を取り出すと、レジの向こうのババアに差し出した。
ババアは鼻から煙草の煙を怪獣みたいに出しながら、無情に藤本の小さな手からもぎ取った。
「はい、これ御釣りね。で、これが商品ね」白くて大きめのレジ袋からニョきっと取っ手の部分がはみ出しレジのテーブルにバコバコあたりながら、私がフライパンを 藤本が御釣りを それぞれ受け取った。
「御釣りいくらですか？」たまらず私が玉緒に聞くと
「千四百円だよ。 ちゃんとおつり、母ちゃんに持って行くんだよ！途中で無駄遣いなんかすんじゃないよ！」
よけいな事迄言われ、我々の窃盗金額一万円が一気に千四百円となった。
それでも気を取り直して、フライパンを片手にゲーセンに入り、ふたりで三回づつやった頃、横浜銀蝿みたいな中学生の不良連中に囲まれ、残りの八百円、一気にかつあげをされた。
冗談で、フライパンを差し出すと、ぶん殴られた。よけいな一発だった。
すっかり肩を落とし、我々はチャリに乗った。
「おい、お前ら、忘れもんだぞっ！」
さっきの銀蝿がニタニタ笑いながら持ってきて、私のチャリンコのカゴに変形のバスケでもするかのように軽々と入れ最後にこういった。
「ゲーセンにフライパン持ってくんじゃね〜ぞ ぎゃはははっは」
街頭の灯りもつきはじめた歩道を私が先頭となりきこきことペダルをひたすこいだ。
カゴからはビニールのすれる音と、フライパンが段差の度にカタカタ音。
全く会話のないふたりは途中公園にどちらからともなく寄った。
ジャングルジムのてっぺん
「どうする？．．．．．．フライパン。」
悩んだ末、藤本の家の裏の空き地に埋める事にした。
辺りは暗くなったが、私と藤本は掘り続けた。
１m程掘ったところでフライパンを入れ、先ほど掘った土を
丁寧にかけて行った。
ふたりの間にはまったく会話はなく、無心になってフライパンを埋めていった。
やがて、細い月と星があたりをつつみ。
近所の家から夕食の準備の音や何かを煮込むイイにおいがした。
近くに転がっていた材木を無造作に埋めたフライパンの上に置き
土が入り込んだ爪をいじくりながら、藤本は言った。
「フライパン、高かったな・・・・」
爪から取れない冷たい土。
クラウンの炎。聖徳太子。鼻から煙を出す玉緒。横浜銀蠅。
色々なものが入り交じった暗い家路。チャリの薄暗いライト。
家に帰るとおふくろの暖かいシチューが待っていた。
きっと、いつかあのフライパンも遺跡として発掘されるのであろうか？
ま、盗みは良くないってことで。

予想もしてなかったです。
そして、フライパンも高い！
もうちょっと安いものにすればよかったのに。

そそそ、かつあげにあって根こそぎもぎ取られた。
小学校1年生の時鉄道模型のNゲージかったら、これまたかつ上げされた。今は飲みに行くと農協にかつあげされている。
