扇風機が地球を救う
【バグダッド/イラク 1日 AFP】バグダッドでは1日、気温が摂氏40度近くまで上り、予報もイラクの特徴的な暑さがしばらく続くと報じた。暑さの中、エアコンや扇風機の修理を行う業者たちは活気づいている。写真は、扇風機を販売する行商人。(c)AFP/SABAH ARAR
「ああああああああ」が震えて聞こえるのが楽しくて、毎日家の扇風機に向かって座り込んでいた。
「いいいいいいいい」決まって、次は「いいいいい」
要するに、あいうえお順でぐるぐる回る扇風機の羽根に向かって語りかけ、最後には「いいいいい。。。けええええ。。。やあああ」と自分の名前で締めくくる。
そしてその儀式が終わると、今度は勢いよく回る先端部分に親指を押し当てて、圧力で、この回転を止める。はじめは摩擦で熱いのだが、さらに圧力をかけて行くと、結構止まる。
こんな事を日々の日課としていた小学生の私は、扇風機が大好きでしょうがない、すこぶる変な少年だった。
四枚のゆがんだ楕円がさらに前後にゆがみ不規則な感じでありながら規則正しく中心の軸にひっついてる所がたまらない。
清涼感を出す演出だと思うが、透明なブルーやらグリーンやらのアクリル素材がたまらない。
首振りを一定のリズムで行いながら限界迄行った時にガクンと必ずひずむところがたまらない。
さらに、首振りをストップするモーターの上のボタンを押した瞬間やはりガクンと消化不良な感じで振り子が止まるところあたまらない。
高さ調整する時のボタンを押すとビックリするように背伸びするのがたまらない。
ま〜とにかく、あげればきりがない程、扇風機のフォルムと存在に妙に惹かれていた幼少期。扇風機ファンであった。
その扇風機も進化し、今ではリモコン機能や自然風とかいって不規則に吹く風やマイナスイオンやらなんやら、とにかく多機能。
ま、夏の中心家電の地位をエアコンに、まんまと持って行かれ、その存在すら危ぶまれた扇風機の背景を考えると、多機能での生き残りはあたりまえの事なのかもしれない。
それにしても、バグダッド４０度。インド北部で気温の上昇が続き、首都ニューデリー（New Delhi）で6日、この夏最高の44度。
異常だよ！異常！
温暖化は、さんざん言われてきたけど、北極グマの絶滅の話にしても、２−３ヶ月前の北欧での大寒波にしても、世界が色んな意味で熱くて寒い。いわゆる異常気象？ 地球がいよいよ病んできた。屋上の緑地化がどれだけ効果有るかわからないけど、このままでは確実に、熱帯雨林東京も目前なのかもしれない。
現に、東京でも南国植物やカエルが異常発生したりしてるみたい。
無責任に言えば、南国好きの私としては、東京亜熱帯はウエルカムだけど、深刻な問題だよね〜。
「夏は暑く、冬は寒い」このあたりまえの状態がエアコンや冷暖房器具の発展で「夏も涼しく、冬もあったか」になりつつある。
この、あたりまえに変化をもたらす「快適な暮らし」はエアコンの室外機の熱やエネルギーの過剰消費となり、人類が最も大切にしなければならない資源であり財産の「自然」が、己の一時的な「快適」の為に浸食されようとしている。
この、紛れもない事実を知りながら、世の中は病んでる地球をよそに飽くなき迷走を続ける。
戦後の3大発明。冷蔵庫・エアコン・カラーテレビ。
この、三つが人類にもたらした功績は大きいが、確実に地球を蝕む原動力になったとも言える。
大発明の裏に大リスクあり。
経済の発展に比例して地球の浸食も大きく進んだ。
そんなことを考えながらも、この時期、ちょっと温度が下がるだけでエアコンのスイッチを入れてしまう自分に憤りを感じる。
「熱くなれば冷やせばいい。」そんな風に誰かが言った。
地球は極度な温暖と寒冷をくりかえして、温暖化を意識的に克服しようとしているのかもしれない。その落差がいつの日か、バランスをおかしくして大きな天変地異を起こしてしまうことになるのかもしれない。
インドの温度はいったい何度まで上がるのだろう？
地球はどこまで熱くなるのだろう？
扇風機はいったい何台売れていくのだろう？
そして僕はそんな地球に何が出来るのだろう？

そうやって扇風機で遊んでましたよ。
着ているTシャツをすっぽりと扇風機に被せて、
ぷ～と膨らんだTシャツの中で涼んだりしてました。
