電池に思ふ
【静岡 30日 AFP】静岡市蒲原の富士川滑空場で29日、東京工業大学の学生たちが、乾電池を動力源とした世界初の一人乗り飛行機の試験飛行を行った。飛行機は炭素繊維とスティロフォーム（styroform）で構成されており、全長10メートル、翼長31メートル、重さは100キログラム。単3のオキシライド（Oxyride）乾電池160個で動作する。今回の試験飛行では200メートル飛行した。写真は初の試験飛行で、飛行機を追いかける学生たち。(c)AFP/YOSHIKAZU TSUNO
凄い！やっぱり日本は凄い！！電気で飛行機を動かすってなんとも凄い事だと思う。電気自動車の時代なのだから、電気飛行機や電気ヘリコプターがあったっておかしくはない。しかし、今回のこのニュースで、私が心を躍らせたのには、別の理由もある。それは、乾電池・・・。
一昔前、私がまだ幼かった頃は、『乾電池』の存在が魅力的だった。小学校の実験・・・。豆電球が点灯しただけで、凄い事のように思えたし、乾電池でモーターが動いた時は、奇跡の様に思えた。まさに『乾電池』は、私のヒーローであり、私は、『乾電池』の中に、故・手塚治虫氏の世界を見ているようであった。つまりは、それくらいに乾電池の可能性は、私の瞳に大きく映っていたのである。
それが、近年ではどうだろう？環境問題が深刻化し、『乾電池』は隅に追いやられ始めた。ソーラーパワーや充電池の登場により徐々に活躍の場を失っていく乾電池。利便さも断然違う。充電池の方が持続の長さといったら半端ない。本当に便利だ。
しかし、私は基本的に便利な世の中が大嫌い。物事が便利になればなるほど、ため息でる。なぜ、便利さが嫌なのか？

≪忍耐の欠如・・・≫
それは、忍耐が欠落していくから。物事、便利になり、不便さがなくなればなくなるほど、人はわがままになっていく。
≪忍耐≫とは人間の筋肉と同じで鍛えなければやがて衰えていく。そして≪忍耐≫が衰えると「自分の望み通りにいかない」という事実を受入れにくくなる。そうなるとどうなるのか？キレやすくなる。そしてその結果、最悪のケースは犯罪へと結びつく事になる。
≪忍耐が及ぼす社会への影響・・・≫
最近は変なニュースが多い・・・っという言葉をよく耳にする。先日もアジのフライをめぐって殺しあった七十歳の夫婦の事件があった。今まで仲良く四十年以上も仲良くやってきた夫婦がたかがアジフライで殺しあう？私は、そんな、事件の背景には、≪忍耐≫の欠如があるようにも思えてならない。
社会が、何でも望みがかなう便利な社会になりつつあり、その結果、国民一人、一人が、わがままな一人っ子の様になってきているのだ。その為に≪忍耐≫を鍛える社会が存在しなくなっている・・・。そんな事をいうと、便利な世の中が悪い様である。しかし、確かに私は悪いと思っている。自動改札なんて必要ないし、レストランで、自動で便座が上がるのも不必要。電池だって、そんな長時間使えなくたって、何個も持ち歩けばいい。その不便さが、人々の≪忍耐≫を鍛えていく。まぁ、乾電池に関しては、環境問題が付随してくるので、なんとも言えないが・・・（笑）。
世に中が、すべて自動化、機械化し、便利になった時・・・それは人々の≪忍耐≫も完全に失われる時であり、それは世の中の崩壊を意味するように思えてならない。
