120億円の寄附！
アメリカ財界人の寄附は、半端ではない。今回、ナイキ創業者であるＦ．ナイト会長が母校であるスタンフォード大学ビジネススクールに寄附した金額は、なんと1億500万ドル、日本円で約120億4千万円。先日、投資家のウォーレン・バフェット氏が、自身が経営する投資会社の保有株370億ドル、4兆3千億円相当を、ビル・ゲイツ夫妻が運営するビル・アンド・メリンダ・ゲイツ財団に譲渡すると発表し話題を呼びましたが、それにしても、アメリカ社会における寄附市場はすごい規模です。2005年度のアメリカにおける寄附金の総額は、個人、財団助成など含めて、約2600億ドル、なんと30兆円という莫大な数字が報告されています。
寄附のしくみ
日本のNPOに勤務する者としては、その桁違いの金額に圧倒されるばかりですが、アメリカには、この巨額な寄附市場で活躍する資金調達の専門家、ファンドレイザーと呼ばれる人たちがいますし、様々な寄附の仕組みが開発され、取り組まれています。
アメリカでは、ナイト会長やバフェット氏の例に見るように、個人寄附の割合が圧倒的に高いのですが、Cause-related Marketing による消費者参加型の寄附の仕組みも充実しています。例えば、生理用ナプキンの会社では、製品の売上げの一部を寄附するという形でDV被害者支援のキャンペーンに取り組んだり、スターバックス社は、NPOと連携を図り特性タンブラーやプリペイドカードを作成し、その売上げの一部をNPOに寄附し活動を支援しています。
Cause-related Marketing は、NPOにとっては、寄附を受けられるだけでなく、企業が持つマーケットを活用し、消費者に自分たちの活動を知ってもらうことができ、賛同者を増やすことができますし、企業にとっても、消費者の共感を得ることにより、信頼性を高めることができ、新たなマーケットを開拓できるというメリットがあります。また、これらNPO、企業双方にシナジー効果をもたらすだけでなく、商品を購入する消費者にとっても、身近な買い物を通じて自分たちが社会貢献活動に参画できるという意味で、三者にとって win-win-winな関係をもたらす有益な取り組みであると言えます。
