選挙があると、さすがに最近は投票所に足を運びますが、選挙権を得て間もない二十歳そこそこの頃は、投票になど行ったためしがありませんでした。思えばあの当時は、日本経済も好調だったし、戦後築き上げられたシステムを、いわゆる団塊の世代の方々が中心となってガッチリとスクラム組んで守り抜いていた時期だったので、なんとなく我々若ゾウからすると、「我々が社会に対して何か言ったところで、どうせどうにもならないだろう」、といったような閉塞感が、その世代の方々の傘の下で守られているという安心感と共に、朧気にあったように思います。
でもきっと、今の若い方々はそうではないのではないでしょうか。
あの後、これまで決して倒産することのないと言われていた銀行が倒産したり、ソフトバンクの孫氏が出てきたり、近いところではホリエモンが出て来たり、いろいろなことが自由化されたり、渋谷とかでは、二十歳そことこの女性スーパーバイヤーが出てきたり、若いスポーツ選手が世界で活躍したりと、そのような閉塞感に風穴があくような出来事や、そういうことを実践してくれる方々が続々と出てきました。
このことの賛否については、いろいろなところでいろいろな方がコメントしていますが、いずれにせよ、今はもうこうなってしまったので、これからの若い方々は、どんどん社会進出していったらいいのでは、と思います。
上記の写真は、ＮＰＯ団体の大使を勤める少女が大統領と会見したとのニュースですが、先日日本でも、子供の力が行政を動かすということがありました。静岡市で、中学３年生の男子によって請願された「歩きたばこ禁止条例」が、可決されたとのことです。喜ばしいニュースだと思います。
こんなに大それたことでなくてもいいのです、小さいことでもいいから、今の若い方たちが、「ああ、自分の働きかけによって社会が動いたのだなあ」と実感できるような機構を、その上の世代の方々はどんどん設けていくべきではないでしょうか。
先日近所のコンビニに買い物に行ったら地元の中学生が、慣れない手つきで床掃除をしていたり、商品を陳列したりしていました。おそらく「総合的な学習の時間」かなにかの授業の一コマだと思います。それらの作業が一段落したところで店長が、「もうじき弁当が納品されるのでその検品をやってもらおう」と言うと、それを聞いた女性のパートの方が、「検品は間違えたら後々面倒だから、やらせないほうがいいんじゃないですか」と提言しました。しかし店長は、それを退け彼らに検品させてました。納品伝票は手にした中学生たちは、掃除用具やお菓子の類の商品には無いある種の責任の重さのようなものを感じたらしく、戸惑いながらも検品作業しておりましたが、なかなか清々しい光景で良かったです。このような授業や、また、企業のインターンシップのようなものも、どんどん充実したらいいと思います。
あと私立大学の総長選挙、あの選挙にも是非在校生が、せめて上級学年の３・４年生が参選できるようにしたらいいのに、と感じることが多々あります。
