＜リンダ＞
2年前にアメリカ南西部を車で回ったときにアルバカーキの「National Hispanic Cultural Center」でリンダ・ロンシュタットの歌を聴いた。彼女はチカーナである。ホームページには「ヒスパニック」という雑誌の表紙になった写真が掲載されている。さまざまな新しいジャンルに挑戦してきたリンダは、チカーノの伝統的な音楽のスタイル（コリードなど）を自らの歌に取りこんだことでも知られている。若かりしころを知っている私は久しぶりに見て、すっかり太ってしまった彼女に時間を感じてしまった。とはいえ、さまざまなスターと浮き名を流してきた彼女は相変わらず美しかった。そのときは、ブッシュ大統領に対抗して出馬したケリー候補の応援としてきていた。アメリカの大統領選挙はまさにお祭りで、ナバホ族の代表とともにクリントン前大統領も来場し、私があちこち自由に動いていたら警護の人間に銃を向けられたのを覚えている。銃の先を使って「向こうへ行け！」と指示された。コワイコワイ。リンダは英語とスペイン語を使って聴衆に語りかけ喝采を浴びていた。日本の首相が選ばれる過程とは温度差がありすぎる。論点を明確にするほど日本には深刻な問題は存在しないということだろうか。そんなことはないだろう。リンダのことを思い出したのは、先住民とアフリカの血を受け継いだベネズエラのチャベス大統領のドキュメントをNHKで見たからだった。文化的にも経済的にも政治的にもアメリカに洗脳された日本人にとって、ラテンアメリカやヒスパニックによるアメリカの相対化は大変に勉強になる。アメリカによって用意された枠組みのなかでアメリカを見ても意味がない。ゲバラの射殺を命じた人間がいまだに主導権を握ってチャベスの首を狙おうとしているところに、アメリカのラテンアメリカに対する認識の不変さを見てとることができる。
＜マーズ・ヴォルタ＞
今日、サードアルバムが日本で発売される。エル・パソのバンドである。以下はホームページから。
アメリカはテキサス州、メキシコとアメリカの国境近くに存在する人種的にも文化的にもメキシコ色の強い街、エル・パソ出身の二人。1994年アット・ザ・ドライヴ‐イン（ATDI）を結成し、2000年、ロス・ロビンソン プロデュースによるメジャー・デビュー・アルバム『リレーションシップ・オブ・コマンド』は特に日本、ヨーロッパで高く評価された。しかし、2001年3月にたった2年足らずでATDIは解散してしまう。2002年、バンドは二つに分かれ、方や西のレーベル ドリームワークスからエモの真髄をいくSPARTAというバンドでデビュー。一方のマーズ・ヴォルタはジャンルというものを越え、独特な楽曲構成のもとにプログレッシヴを彷彿とさせる独自のサウンドを生み出すバンドとしてEPを発表。日本ツアーも果す。その後マネージメントをATDI 時代のジョン・シルヴァ（GAS）にし、東海岸の老舗レーベルUniversal／Motownとレーベル契約した。2003年、彼等のデビュー・アルバムのプロデューサーがリック・ルービンであったことや、レッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパーズのベーシスト、フリー(FLEA)がアルバムに参加していることなどでも話題を呼んだが、何よりもマーズ・ヴォルタの独特のサウンドは多くの音楽ファンを魅了した。2005年2月にセカンド・アルバム「フランシス・ザ・ミュート」をリリース、全米チャート4位を獲得！その熱も冷めぬ2005年11月には初のライヴ・アルバムを発売したばかり。

この番組を見たことがないので、よく事情がわかりません・・・。人種で別れてサバイバルゲームをするんですね？
ヒスパニックもアジア系もアフリカ系も一つではないし、それぞれ内部にいろいろな民族を抱えているので、とりあえずの枠組みとしてはおもしろいんじゃないでしょうか。
オリンピックもW杯も国家に別れて、ということは国民に別れて（多くの場合は民族に別れて）戦うので盛り上がるという面があるので「番組を盛り上げるには人種で分けるのがいい！」と思ったんでしょうね。
先日テレビで、オランダ国内のワールドカップの番組を見ました。オランダには世界中からの移民が訪れているので、国内だけでW杯ができちゃうらしいです。
彼らは交流の場として利用しているようですよ。
私としては、吉成くんの意見がお聞きしたいです。

交流の場として利用する「国内だけでW杯」もとても面白いようには思えません。
これはすべて主観ですが、
もし僕がサッカーうまくて、海外でプレーしてて、こういうイベントがあったら燃えると思います。
しかし僕が人種や民族のことで日本人枠に入れられることはとても嫌です。
これはもう脊髄反射的に、人を民族とか人種で分けることがすごく嫌なのです。
僕の田舎の清里町の同級生たちは高校で網走市に行くと、みんな「清里人」と言わてからかわれました。
それは僕にはすごく腹立たしいことでした。
もともと清里においてもよそ者だった家なので、清里にも馴染めない、都会の高校でも差別化される、といった具合で育ちました。
なにかにカテゴライズされて、それと一緒にされてけなされるのは、いわれなき不当なことのように思えました。
僕のような境遇の人はほかにもきっといると思います。
子供の世界も残酷なもので、大人の世界の価値の優劣順位は子供の世界にダイレクトに反映されて、いじめの対象をつねに作りつづけていたように思い出されます。
肌の色が違ったり、言葉がなまってたりしたらもっとコンプレックスも大きいと思います。
これら人と人との差異はつねにあり、差異があるところいつもどちらがより優性か劣性かもつきまとっているように思います。
そういうなかで、差異を際立たせて対立を深めるような番組が作られるのは、僕は釈然としません。
人種や民族は、僕の生い立ちより、もっと広い世界、長い歴史でデリケートな感情を作り上げてきたと思います。
そんななかで嫌だと文句をつけている人たちもいるのだから、視聴率をとるだなんて利己のために人を傷つけるのはよくないと思います。
最近テレビで一番熱狂したのは甲子園でした。
北海道代表が偉業をなしとげるか否かの記念的な決勝戦でした。
ぼくは北海道贔屓で、駒大苫小牧を応援していました。
しかし最後はもうどちらが勝っても負けても構わない、素晴らしい試合だと思いました。
優勝を決めた投手が泣き、敗退したエースが笑みをこぼしました。
いまとなっては駒大苫小牧のがんばりは全て斉藤選手を盛り立てるためのお膳立のように扱われてしまっている感があるのが気になります（笑）。
アメリカに親善試合にいった高校球児の選抜隊に、ゴジラ松井が声をかけていました。
「アメリカに負けるなよ」
僕は、「いい試合すれよ」と声をかけたいです。
……基本的には脊髄反射的に人種とか民族に拒否反応を示すわたくしなのですが、少し自分にどうして？と問いかけてみたらこんな文章になりました。

率直な意見をありがとうございます。
オランダ国内のW杯はみんな楽しそうでしたよ。そんなイベントでもなければ、人びとはお互いに交流することができないようでした。人びとはさまざまな重荷を背負いながらも、そのうえで他者と交流している。とても健全だと思います。
自分は「人種や民族の枠組みに入れられたくない」と思っても、相手側は自分をその中のどこかに入れてしまうわけで「何者でもない者」になるのはなかなか難しいことです。特権的な立場と特権的な感性を持っている人は自分自身をそのようにごまかすことはできるのかもしれませんが、私は凡人なので、アメリカに行っても、メキシコに行っても、韓国に行っても「日本人です」と自己紹介します。「日本に生まれたけれども、そのような枠組みに入れられるのは困る」とはけっして言いません。おそらく「アホか」と言われるでしょう。だから、日本のパスポートに守られながら「私は日本人であることに耐えられない」などとのたまうようなアクロバットは私にはできないのです。
差異を際だたせるのはよくないので、差異を隠蔽しようという考え方にも私は与しません。境界線を消せば優劣の妄想も一緒に消え失せるとは思えないのです。
視聴率をとるために、学校の名前をあげるために、高校野球は大いに利用されているのではないでしょうか。私はまず高校野球は見ないです。今回は、関西出身の駒大苫小牧の投手と、北関東出身の早実の投手が投げ合う決勝戦の第一試合はだけは最後だけちょっと見ました。北海道、駒澤大学、関西、北関東、早稲田大学、西東京などの要素が微妙に入り組んでいるなかで、人はどれかに感情移入して応援するのでしょう。あるいは「若さ」自体に人はひかれるのかもしれません。しかし、若いことがすばらしいとは私にはまったく思えません。
「いい試合をしろ」ですか？ う〜ん、それはまた漠然としていますね。そういうアドバイスをもらっても、選手は戸惑うのではないでしょうか？ 「アメリカに勝て！」がなんでひっかかるのか、私にはどうもわかりません。
むかし、アメリカでチカーノと喧嘩したときに、私は同じ東洋人として中国人に助けてもらいました。普段は、中国人のことも韓国人のこともなんとも思っていないのに。「現実」は書物の上のようには、そんなにすっきりとはしていないですよ。
これからも、率直な意見を楽しみにしています！

しかしパスポートのことに関しては国籍＝民族＝人種ばかりではないと思いました。
日本国のパスポートに守られている外人だっているのではないでしょうか。
また高校野球にいかなる利権があろうとも（清水諭『甲子園野球のアルケオロジー』に詳しかったです）、選手たちには青春があるのだと思い、その青春によって、一つ一つのプレーが勝敗に根ざした利権を超える感動を呼ぶと思います。（観念的・感情的ですみません。）それが決勝戦ではたまたま北海道校で、なるか三連覇の物語つきだったのです。これは白熱させられました。そりゃ道産子ではないです。まして苫小牧出身じゃないです。（僕も苫小牧出身でないです。祖父の代から北海道移民です。清里町から札幌市にでてきました。）でも本当に最後は勝ち負け関係なかったです。少なくとも僕にとっては。こいつらすごい奴らだなーと思ってました。自分より凄いと思いました。考えてみると10歳も年下・・・。
事情は異なるかもしれませんが、北海道のアイヌの状況を考えると、いま民族とか人種とか言っている方が無理があるように思われてきます。なにに根ざしてそう言えるのか。いわゆる和人でもアイヌのことをたくさん勉強してアイヌ的世界に入っていった人もいます。彼のことは自他ともにアイヌと認めています。一方でアイヌはどんどん混血していき、昔の生活環境は失われ、博物館か社会運動のなかにしか存在しないと言われても仕方の無いような状況ではないかと思います。アイヌはいまや概念なのかもしれません。もうそういう世代にさしかかっています。（アイヌのエカシの孫だという友だちは子供のころ、親たちがアイヌ語で話していたのを聞いて育ったけど、本人は現在まるでわからないそうです。）
また、北海道そのものも、そのむかし財政が悪化した日本がロシアに売ろうとして話を持ち込み、ロシアにそんな土地いらんといって断わられたという歴史があります。
もしこのとき売られていたら……、歴史にもしを考えるのは僕にとってとても面白いことです。樺太や北方領土のようになったのでしょうか。
私は井村さんのような海外経験に乏しいので、このように考えているのだと思います。しかしどうか、寛大なお心で、海外に行かないながら拙くもこういうふうに考えている奴もいるのだなと、お心置きいただければ幸甚です。
本当はこういうことを書くのは怖いです。議論慣れしていないです。なるべくたくさんの考え方、生き方に触れてみたいとは思っているのですが・・・。
あまり関係のないようなことまで書きこんでしまいました。考えの至らない発言をしてご迷惑をおかけすることも多々あるかと思いますが、今後ともどうかあたたかく受け止めて下さいませ。いつもどうもすみません。そしていつもありがとうございます。

横から割り込んですみません。
吉成さんのご意見を読んで、川向こう精神、カテゴライズに対するお考えなど、自分との共通点を感じてにやりとしてしまいました。私は静岡の出身ですが、市内で「川向こう」と呼ばれる地域で育ちました。吉成さんがおっしゃった清里と網走の関係がどんなものなのかよくわからないのですが、静岡市街と川向こうの関係と似ているところもあるのかなと推測いたします。私の場合は静岡市内の狭い地域の話で、いわれなき差別というほどのものも受けていないし、えらそうなことは言えないのですが、「市街と川向こう」の関係って、きっと日本の、そして世界のあちこちにあるものなんだろうなと思っています。
川向こう精神やカテゴライズに対する考えが私にとってのチカーノについて学ぶきっかけになっていた、ということを、井村さんの文章を拝読したりコメントを書いたりしている内に再認識するようになりました。チカーノについて学ぶことで自分を吐き出してないかい？と自問しています。
ところで、石橋純さんの「太鼓歌に耳をかせ」という本、お読みになりましたか？私もまだ読み途中ですが、川向こうのことがちょこっと出てきますよ（＾＾）

すべての要件について意見の一致を見る必要などないのですが、パスポートの話から、なぜ「国籍＝民族＝人種」となるのか、ちょっと理解できませんでした。まさか、私がそう考えているとでも！ なわけないでしょうけど。
自分が日本のパスポートをもって日本に守られていることと、世界におけるクレオール状況とをまっすぐに結びつけて考えるのは安易すぎます（よくある話ですが）。左じゃなければ右という風には世の中できてませんからね。
それと高校野球の「利権を越えた感動」があっても私はぜんぜん構いませんよ。それが偽物の「郷土愛」に裏打ちされた感動でも。しかし、それらはすべて「物語」に感動しているような気がします。マスコミによるストーリーによって感動を作り出して、人びとは感動に飢えているのでそれにすぐ乗っかってしまう。感動が本質的でないから結局「ハンカチ（！）」に集約されたりする。で「なんでおまえは感動できないんだ！」なんて言われたりして。「私はほかに感動できることがたくさんありますんで」と答えるようにしています。
アイヌの人たちに起きていることは、日系アメリカ人でもチカーノでも同じように語れます。しかし、おっしゃるような「民族とか人種」で語るのが「無理」で「アイヌはいまや概念にしか存在しない」のなら、なぜ「アイヌ」にそれだけの意味を持たせようとするのでしょうか？
最後に「海外経験」の多寡で意見の軽重を語るのはばかげています。本をどれだけ読んだかで計るのと同じくらいにね。もちろん、そういう判断基準が通用する分野はありますけど。けれどもこんなオープンな場で、そういうつまらない謙遜はいらないです。海外に長期間滞在しているのに、誰よりも偏狭な精神な人もいれば、生まれた場所から動いたことがないのに尊敬できるお人柄の人も山ほどいます。
私も考えてみれば「川向こう」だったような。バカにされた記憶もうっすらと。しかし、相手が作ったボーダーを自分も受け入れて議論するのは相手の術中にはまることです。ボーダーなんてないんですよ。幻想。その幻想によって自らのアイデンティティを相手に投影させて映し出し、相手の手のひらの上で抵抗している。ばかげたこと！ 「民族とか人種」にたいして過剰に反応する人は民族や人種という枠組みを受け入れているんだと思います。人をカテゴライズする人は自らもカテゴライズされたい人だ、ということもできます。
石橋さんの本は出版されてすぐに購入しました。ご本人にもお会いしましたよ。でも、あの本に対しては私はノーコメントです。
