私の知らない鎌倉 ～ 7月18日 長谷寺・施餓鬼会 ～

△▼私の知らない鎌倉を捜して
鎌倉散策の記事を書こうとネットサーフィンをしていて目に留まったのが、鎌倉の長谷寺で７月１８日に催される 『観音施餓鬼会（かんのんせがきえ）』。一般の人も参加できるということで、参加をしてみることにしました。

△▼やはり第一印象は大切です
さっそく長谷寺へ“施餓鬼会”のことを問い合わせてみる。「10時から受付から、11時から法要ですので、どうぞいらしてください」とのこと。ここは何度か取材に訪れたことがあり、そのたびに問い合わせをするが、いつ電話をしても感じのよい対応が嬉しいお寺です。やはり、何事も第一印象が大切。私は長谷寺に、とても良い印象を持っています。
△▼お施餓鬼とは
“お施餓鬼（せがき）”ってご存じですか。餓鬼道（がきどう）という世界に落ちて苦しんでいる亡者に食べ物を施すということで、施餓鬼会（せがきえ）は、私達も死後、ひょっとしたら餓鬼道へ落ちるかもしれないから、施しを忘れてはいけないということで、行われる法要だそうです。
△▼初めて参加する“法要”
幸か不幸か、私は今まで法要と名のつくものとはあまり縁がなく、この長谷寺の施餓鬼会が初めての法要。ワクワクしながら（不謹慎ですね）、施餓鬼会に参加をしました。普段、立ち入らない、大きな長谷観音の目の前の座席に座り、11時の法要を待ちます。そぼ降る雨の中、11時前には多くの参列者が集い、僧侶の入場を待っていました。
△▼観音様の前に、美しい刺繍を施された僧侶がズラリ
11時。鐘の音とともに僧侶が入場。手を伸ばせば触れられるほどの距離、目の前に10数人の僧侶がズラリ。長いお経を静かに目をつむりながら聞いていると、心が洗われていくような、安らぎを覚えいました。法要の途中、花びらのような形の美しい絵が描かれた紙がまかれ、皆さん、それを拾っては大切にお持ち帰りになっていました。
△▼散華（さんげ）が、私の肩にハラリと
この美しい絵が描かれた紙は、散華（さんげ）というもの。法要のときに、仏さまのためにまくのだそうです。一説には、お守りのように仏様のご加護を得られるということで、カバンやお財布に入れておくとよいそうです。
法要のときにまかれた散華が、ヒラリと私の左肩に。散華には、鳳凰を思わせる美しい鳥と美しい女性と思われる方の絵が描かれていました。そっと手にとり、おもむろにバックの中へ……。
何だか、いい事がありそうです。
