リビア伝統音楽のオーケストラがパリでコンサート - フランス

見渡してみれば世界中にさまざまな楽器があって、それも植物の種のように枝分かれして膨大な数におよぶ。それらはなんらかの形で互いに影響しあい、海や山、川、森、砂漠そして国境と時を越えて、人が常に流れていることを伝えてくれる。例えばトルコやアラブの音楽からつむぎだされるリズムと哀愁。東の果てで育った日本人であるのに、現地で生演奏を耳にして、なぜか妙に耳と心にしっくりとくるのはなぜだろう。

私が特に興味をもっているのは弦楽器である。中でもお気に入りのウードはアラブ音楽に欠かせない弦楽器だ。美しく磨き上げられ、精巧に設計され、アラビアの細緻な装飾があしらわれたウード。北アフリカを旅行したとき、これをどうしても現地で買って帰国したいと思ったが、さすがに大きいので実現できなかった。かわりに商人のアラブ人と交渉して値切り、小さな太鼓を買い、帰りのスーツケースに忍ばせた。
中東にあるウードやカーヌーン、中世になってヨーロッパでも定着したリュート、西の果てスペインで発祥したギター、インド発祥のシタールや、東アジアの琵琶・・・ どれもみな親戚同士。そのことを想像するだけでも空想ははるか遠くへと飛んでいく。
日本でも、時と人の手を経て、大陸や島々から伝わってきた楽器が、人のこころを奏でる言葉になり、琵琶法師が誕生し、三味線が親しまれた。こんなことは世界各地でおこっている。さて、どんな弦楽器があるのかみてみると、聞いたこともないような名前のもの、あるいは歴史に埋もれて消滅してしまったものなどが、あまりに多いことに驚かされる。
いまにしられているものでは、マリやザンビアの「コラ」、ハンガリーの「ツィンバロム」、ロシアの「バラライカ」、モンゴルの「モリンホール」、ブラジルの「カバキーニョ」、タイとカンボジアの「キム」などなど。いずれも、民族風土を反映した美しい弦楽器たちである。ちなみに「ツィター」は、名作映画「第三の男」のテーマ音楽ためにアントン・カラスが演奏した。映画の緊張感をはじかせるような不思議な音質は、子供のころから耳によく残っていたものだ。
日本にも、琵琶や三味線、琴などのほかに伝統弦楽器が存在する。アイヌ人が残す唯一の弦楽器「トンコリ」だ。なかでもアイヌ人の父上と日本人の母上を持つＯＫＩさんは、この楽器を使ってアイヌ音楽と世界の音楽を融合させ、独特のグルーヴ感を創出しながら世界で注目を集めている。

間とリズムで音を形成してきた日本は、開国後、西洋諸国に遅れるべからずと好んで音階のアイデアとテクニックを吸収してきたものだ。しかしいま西洋では、逆にメロディよりもリズムや音の重ね合わせによる音楽がさかんにつくられている。
音楽分野も技術が進歩して、「サンプリング」を編みこんだ音楽が多く生み出されるようになった。大学の音楽学部などでは、例えば水の落ちる音や、車が発進する音など多種多様な音源をレコーディングして、それをコンピュータで加工して作曲する試みがよくみられる。学生たちはこれらを「エクスペリメンタル・ミュージック」つまり「実験的音楽」と称している。
サンプリングをともなう実験的な音の組み合わせについては、まだまだ明確な定義はない。詳しい論議は専門家の手にゆだねられるが、こうした試みはまだまだ進化の途中にあり、完成形にまではいたっていない。さまざまな音が、人の交流と情報の氾濫、技術の進歩により、かつてないほどの渾然一体と混じりあい、新しい音楽ジャンルを生む足がかりの段階をすすんでいる。

最近モンゴルの音楽を聴く機会があった。馬の駆ける音、草原のなびく音、鳥の羽ばたきと鳴き声、風の音・・・などが、荒を残したまま録音され、そこにモンゴル語の伝統民謡と奏楽が、のんびりと交じり合い、モンゴルの雄大な大地の香りが広がった。メロディはない。生粋の「サンプリング」ともいえるだろう。
小さな男の子が、喧騒のない静かな場所で、両耳に手のひらをかざし、「ここにはいろんな音がするね？」と不思議がった。そこは街の中心を離れた村で、周囲は牧草地に囲まれており、私にはほぼ静寂と思われた。しかしその男の子がさかんに「きいてみて！」とせがむので、あらためて集中して耳を凝らしてみた。すると、静寂というものは自然の中にあっては存在しないことに気づいた。
木々や草原が微風になびき、鳥がさえずる。「車の音や、工事の音など一切存在しない」という認識は、逆に私たちの聴覚を鈍化させる。文明のにおいのしない自然の静謐の中に「いろいろな音がある」ととらえるその感覚は、子供ならではの研ぎ澄まされた聴覚のそれであり、大人、あるいは現代人が、忘れてしまいがちなものに違いない。古代人もまた、文明の雑音をきくことなく地球の音を五感で感じ、あるいは「神様」のように圧倒的な何かを畏怖しながら、心の動きを音楽で奏でたことだろう。

雲ひとつない昼下がり、どこからか懐かしげな音が私の耳に流れ込んできた。太鼓の音だ。リズムや音質からして、一瞬、和太鼓かもしれないと思ったが、ゆくゆく耳をこらしてみるとそれはおそらく中央アフリカ特有のものに違いないと思われた。近くで誰かが演奏しているのだ。おそらく、同じ通りに住んでいるアフリカ系ファミリーのひとりだろう。イギリスの地で、故郷を思いしのんでいたのかもしれない。音階のない、乾いたリズム。その音は、皮膚そして体内まで振動を伝え、どこか和太鼓を思い出させる。その緩急と余韻の心地よさに、和太鼓の音、そして自然のリズムを重ねながら、しばし酔いしれた。

すてきなエッセイ、エンジョイしました。
”世界のリズム”というタイトルはいかしますね。
たしかに、いろんな楽器がある。
楽器ではないけど、昔小学校低学年の
ころ、４キロ先の学校までの道のり（完璧な田舎道）、麦笛
なんてものをちびなりに工夫して友だちと
音色を競いあった懐かしき思い。
世界のリズムがみんなその国、その地域、
その村の自然の環境のなかから育まれてきた
楽器と密接な関係がある。
楽器の奏でる強烈なリズム、哀愁を帯びた音色、
みんなそこに住むひとの自然との関わり、生活感覚、
憧れ、夢、哀しみ、怒り、あきらめなどの多様な感性と感情を楽器にのせて巧みに表現。
やはり、本場の楽器が造りだす、本場特有のリズム。自然に身体が動いてきますね。リズムに引き込まれ、リズムに
同化する。その土地の環境と自然にマッチしたとき楽器は
道具から大きく昇華し強烈な芸術の世界にひとを導く。
最高の感動と喜び。
ジャズの好きな友人が昔、仕事でアメリカに渡った。
アメリカ南部のジャズのメッカに過ごすこと３年。
”日本のジャズとは、違うんだな、結論的に
なんというか、しびれっぱなしということかな”と感極まった
言葉を発していたのをいま思い出す。
本場のリズム、それは世界に伝播され、世界のリズムに。
でも、本物のリズムを堪能したければ、やはり、そのリズムの
発祥の地での体験が最高なのでしょうね。
夏祭りの和太鼓のリズム、これはやはり日本が最高
でしょう。カーニバルの圧倒的なリズムと迫力はブラジル
に敵わないと同じように。
すばらしいエッセイ、”世界のリズム”を拝読しながら、世界の数々の楽器の音色に思いを馳せました。御礼申し上げます。

「草笛」というものはよく目（耳）にしますが麦笛とは。
どんなふうなんだろう？
私はよく、笹笛を練習しました。なつかしいです。
笹にもよいものとわるいものがあって。
でもぜんぜんへたっぴなんです。いまでも口笛が
ふけないほどで・・・・
世界の楽器は、リズムや音色も興味深いけれど
気候（湿度や温度なども含め）にあった材料も気になります。
アラブのウード これは、アラビア語で
アルウードal'udが語源になっていて
もともとは「木」の意味なんだそうです。
英語のウッドwoodと関係があるのかもしれないとか。
そうそう、三味線の皮は猫皮なんですって！！
アイヌのトンコリのデザインは女体がモチーフだし。
本当にいろいろあります。

本当にいろいろありますね。
豊穣の音色を自由自在に作り出す
楽器、そしてその弾き手、たたき手、
etc.・・・・。
そして、思い思いの感性でその
音色を堪能する聞き手。音楽は
何時の世もすばらしい。
明日は早朝６時４０分にゴルフの
スタート。世界のリズム感覚で
先ずはスタートホールでのティショット。
”ナイス・ショット！”の掛け声。
明日はよきスコアがでまずぞ。
きっと。
と思ったら、急にこれ以上キィボードを
たたくのがおっくうになりました。
リズム論、音楽論は、従って、次の機会に。
