～ダ・ヴィンチ・コード
世界的ベストセラー「ダ・ヴィンチ・コード」についての執筆を頼まれた。レオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチの遺産をキーとして展開するミステリー小説である。洋書がたまたま手元にあったので、遅ればせながらページをめくった。仕事だと思って期待もせずに読み始めたのだが、これが案外面白い。文学観や宗教観、歴史的信憑性への賛否両論はさておき、テンポのよい展開とともに知的好奇心が刺激され、あっという間に読み終えた。

～モナリザの微笑
小説のなかには名画「モナリザ」が登場し、謎を解くかぎのひとつとして重要な役割を果たしている。絵の解釈については小説の中に限らずさまざまな論考が飛び交い、たとえばモナリザの性別について両性具有であるという説もある。いずれにせよ性差国境を超えて世界の超有名人であることに違いはない。そもそも、あれは微笑なのか？と頭を傾げたくなる謎めいた表情。五感を無意識にくすぐる、実に不思議な絵なのである。
～世界で一番美しい？
小学生のころ、長期休暇になるとよく栃木にある母の実家に遊びに行った。そこの渡り廊下の壁に「モナリザ」の原寸大コピーが飾られていた。「世界で一番美しい女性の絵」と伯父から説明を受けたが、その「美しさ」が何であるのか当時の私にはわからない。濃厚かつ澄んだ色具合、繊細な油絵具の表面の細部、そしてなによりも、どの国のものともわからぬ人物の異次元的な存在感が、初めてみたときから目に焼きついた。
～忘れられない絵
その絵は幼い私にとって不可解きわまりなく、説明しがたい感情に不安さえ覚えた。彼女と目があうと「お化け」が背中に取り付くような気がして、いつも額縁の前をすばやく通りすぎたものである。夜ともなれば、薄暗い廊下を渡るとき、気味の悪い「彼女」の前を横切らねばならないことが大変な試練だった。いま考えれば、一度見たら忘れることができない額入りの絵画が存在することを、初めて知った出来事のようにおもう。
～「彼女」の気持ち
「感情認識ソフト」による「モナリザ」の解析結果によれば、作者が意図したかどうかはとにかく、「83%の幸せ、9%の嫌悪感、6%の恐怖感、2%の怒りが含まれている」とのこと。「モナリザ」は限りなく幸せな表情をしているというわけだ。八割の幸せといったら、実にいい心の状態ではないか。うらやましい。逆に恐怖感八割以上などという結果が出たらと思うとゾッとする。まぁそういう結果であっても名画には違いないのだろうが。
～モナリザの居る部屋
「モナリザ」は飽きない絵画である。子供のころに抱いた印象は、時を経て人間そのものとそれを描いた芸術家への好奇心に代わっていまに至る。英国でシェアする家の一室に「モナリザ」が掛けられているのだが、生活するうえで違和感はない。むしろ場所を移動するとしたら、どこか隠れた場所にコッソリ飾っておきたいと感じる。レオナルドが生涯自分の手元に置いて描き続け、完成を見ずに手放さなかったことを思わずにはいられない。
～幸せも腹八分目
「彼女」に退屈しないのは、味わうたびに新しい発見があり、体験的においしいからだろう。家庭料理的なのである。その芸術性のうま味を説明するのに、感情認識ソフトが打ち出した数値のバランスは納得がいく。幸せも腹八分目が心地いいということだ。もしモナリザが幸せ度100％の勢いで微笑んでいたなら、あまりの不自然さに見飽きてしまっているだろうから。レオナルドはつくづく、現代人泣かせのいたずらの天才である。

Thanks for your comment - I would try to create "easy reading" but contain a little tips of my idea behind it in this blog.
