それでも私は、もう一度原田のジャンプが見たい

トリノオリンピックも10日目を過ぎた。この原稿を書いている時点で、日本のメダル獲得数はゼロ。連日、期待はずれの結果を見せられているわけだが、そんな中でスキー・ジャンプの原田雅彦。体重が200g足りなかったために、個人ノーマルヒル予選を用具の規定違反で失格となったニュースは、これまた期待はずれというか、いや期待通り、もしくはそれ以上というか、一瞬、日本中をビミョ～な空気で包んだ。
■思い出の“原田伝説”
原田雅彦、37歳。いつも困ったような、タレ目顔の彼は、日本人の心をいやおうなしに揺さぶり続けるジャンパーだ。
“原田伝説”は、スポーツ全般に疎い私ですら知っている。1994年のリレハンメルオリンピックの団体LHでは、ほぼ金が見えていたところ、原田の失敗ジャンプでまさかの銀。この件で大バッシングを受け、自宅にも嫌がらせがあったという。
しかし1998年の長野オリンピックでは2本目に137mの大ジャンプをし、日本の大逆転に貢献した。ジャンプ後、次のジャンパーである船木和喜に、泣きながら「ふ、ふなき～」と声援を送っていた姿も語り草のひとつだ。
“三振かホームランか”、というエピソードばかりが注目されがちな原田だが、個人の成績を見ても、長野オリンピックラージヒル銅、世界選手権では1993年ファルン大会ノーマルヒル金、1997年トロンヘイム大会ラージヒル金などなど、実績がある。
そして何より、オリンピック5大会連続出場。伝説の1ページを飾るにふさわしい、超人的な記録だと思う。
■「なぜ普通で終われないのか」と自問自答
時事通信によると、ノーマルヒル予選で失格後、原田は2日間選手村の部屋にこもり、「なぜ普通で終われないのか」と自問自答していたという。
それで、答えは出たのか、原田？ 答えがわかったのなら、ぜひ教えて欲しい。メダルへのプレッシャー？ うっかりミス？ 私も知りたいよ、原田が「なぜ普通で終われないのか」の理由を。
■逆メントレ効果…？
原田に限らず、今回のトリノオリンピックでは、本番のプレッシャーからか、本来の力を発揮し切れなかった選手が多かったように見える。まあ、私が小さい頃のオリンピックはいつもこんな感じで、世間も「日本人はここ一番に弱いからね～」と、わりと諦念をもって受け入れていた。
ただ、最近では、科学的な肉体トレーニング方法に加え、メンタルトレーニングも選手たちの間に浸透してきたようで、比較的プレッシャーに押しつぶされずに本番に臨む選手が増えてきた。
メンタルトレーニングは、もともと旧ソ連の宇宙飛行士の不安や緊張を取り除くために開発されたもので、この手法がスポーツ選手にも応用できることがわかり、旧ソ連がオリンピックに向けて導入し、メダルラッシュをもたらすことに成功した。危機感を覚えたアメリカも本格的に研究をはじめ、かつては根性論一本やりだった日本も取り入れることで、一定の成果をあげてきた。
メンタルトレーニングにはさまざまな項目があるが、中でもイメージトレーニングが大切な要素を占めるという。人間の生理機能は頭で思い描いたとおりに反応する特性があるといわれ、その特性を利用し、最高のパフォーマンスを事細かに繰り返しイメージすることで、本番でもうまく身体を反応させることができるそうだ。
また、生体反応ばかりではなく、スランプ中に自分が絶好調だったときのことをイメージすることで、復活のきっかけを作ったり、モチベーションアップに役立てることができるという。
原田も当然メンタルトレーニングを実行していると思うが、毎回“普通で終われない”理由のひとつって、もしかしたら、周囲の「そろそろ何かやらかすんじゃないか」という暗示（？）を、無意識にイメージしてしまった結果だったりするのかも…。だとしたら、すごいイメージ力だ。ある意味、サービスしすぎともいえる。
■それでも私は、もう一度原田のジャンプが見たい
スキー・ジャンプは、団体戦を残すだけとなった。原田にとって、年齢的にも今回が最後のオリンピックだろう。弱いんだか、強いんだか、人間くさい原田が私は好きだ。もう一度、飛ばないかなあ。「失格」よりも、「公式記録」で伝説を締めくくって欲しい。

原田さんの今回のことに、誰か教えてやれよ～という思いが強い私。ほぼ同じ歳の彼が、こんな大舞台でこんなちっさい事でミスをするなんて・・・やっぱり信じられません・・・。
会社に行く前も、試合に行く前も、持ち物検査を忘れずにね・・・と細々と応援する私なのでした。

今回の失格ですが、私も、何か行き違いがあったんじゃないかなあ～という気がしてなりません。
団体の出場者は、今日の公式練習で決まるとか…。はらだ～！

結局、団体戦は岡部孝信（雪印）、葛西紀明、伊東大貴（ともに土屋ホーム）、一戸剛（アインズ）と決まったそうです。
そっかー。残念、原田…。
でも、団体のメンバー、応援してます！

う～ん。さみしいですね。
でも、北海道の人たちは、きっとこれからも彼を温かく見守ってくれるのではないでしょうか。(私も道産子なので、帰省すると、文化の違いに驚くことがあります)
オリンピックの報道は、成績の悪かった選手は、手のひらを返したように無視しますよね。これってどうなの？と思います。

今回のオリンピック、特にテレビ番組の報道は見ていて「なんだかな～」という感じでした。ムリに感動秘話に持っていこうとしているような…。
競技そのものが先の見えないドラマで、それ以上はいらないのに。
