骨太女はお好き？

う～、見るからに痛そうな松井選手の表情。左手首の手術は成功、すでに退院したみたいだけど、骨折した部位の接合には約6週間かかるとの見込みだとか。ズキズキ痛むため、よく眠れないとも……。体が資本のスポーツ選手、ホントにお大事に！と言いたいです。
■犬の散歩で骨折……？
骨折といえば、以前バイト先で一緒になった人が「犬の散歩中、犬に強くリードを引っ張られたはずみで、肋骨を骨折した」と話していたっけ。もののはずみ、ということもあろうが、そんなことで骨折ってするものなの！？ とびっくりしていたら、当人は「え？ 別に珍しくないと思うけど……。友だちもくしゃみしたときに肋骨にひびが入って、通院してたもん」と涼しい顔。（あ、言っておきますが、その人、おばあさんじゃないですよ！当時30代半ばくらいだったはず。）骨、折れる人は折れてるみたいだ。
■女性の骨は“ヤセ”やすい
硬い骨は、肌のように新陳代謝を繰り返しているというイメージがあまりないが、じつは少しずつ古い細胞と新しい細胞が交代し、1年で全身の骨組織の20～30％が新しい組織に生まれ変わっている。
骨密度が増加するのは、男女とも30代まで。以降、男性の場合は50代からなだらかに減少していくのに対し、女性は50歳前後の閉経期をはさんでがくっと急低下してしまう。これは女性ホルモンのひとつ・エストロゲンが、骨の形成に深く関わっているため。閉経後はエストロゲンの量が減少してしまい、一気に骨形成も低下。骨粗しょう症が女性に多いといわれる所以だ。
また、極端なダイエットによる栄養不良も骨をヤセさせる原因。ただでさえ日本人はカルシウム摂取量が目標値（成人女性で600mg／厚生労働省）に達していないというのに、ヤセたい一心の食事制限で骨をもろくさせてしまうなんて。乙女ゴコロは裏目に出がち……。
■おいしく食べて、骨強化
上にも書いたとおり、骨の材料といえば、カルシウム。豊富な食べ物といえば、牛乳、ヨーグルト、チーズなどの乳製品が代表だ。意外なところで、青菜類。カブの葉、ダイコンの葉、小松菜にもけっこうな量が含まれている。お味噌汁の実やおひたしにして、いっぱい食べたい。さらに桜エビやシラス干しをトッピングすれば、簡単にカルシウム量アップ。
カルシウムの代謝に役立つのがマグネシウム。ワカメやヒジキなどの海藻類は、カルシウムだけでなく、マグネシウムも一緒に摂れる。さっきのお味噌汁に入れてもいいし、酢の物や和え物だったら、外食メニューでも選べそう。（……こうしてみると、和食って偉いな～）
付け加えておくと、カルシウムの吸収を高めるビタミンDは、日光を浴びることで体内で活性化されるといわれている。ただし、日光浴など、全身に浴びなきゃダメかというわけではなく、指先や手のひらなどで浴びるだけで十分なのだとか。
■骨の数は、ひとりひとり違う！？
ところで、私たちの体の中にはいくつの骨があるか、ご存知だろうか。正解は、「206＋α」。＋αの部分は人によってそれぞれ違う。たとえば、尾骨の数は個人差があるし、骨同士がくっついているべきところが離れていたり、離れているべきところがくっついていたりするそう。肺や腎臓、眼球、心臓、脳などの臓器と同じように、骨の数も同じかと思いきや、結構アバウトみたいだ。
と、ここまで書いてきたが、私自身は骨についてかなり自信満々だ。仕事で骨密度を測ったとき、技師の人に「ホレボレするくらい、ぶっとくて優秀な骨ですね～」と褒めていただいたのが、ささやかな自慢。今後は見た目より骨で勝負！ ……あ、でも骨太女って、なんだかイケてないなあ。（トホ）
