どの都市がアジアのセンターになるのか？

たぶん、日本ほど都市と農村の貧富の格差が、少ない国はないでしょう。
貧しい県と東京との平均所得が２倍以上開いたことはないですし、実際の差はごくわずかです。
しかし、例えば、上海の平均所得ともっとも貧しい農村の平均所得を比較すれば１０倍以上の開きになります。特に、中国の場合は、都市戸籍と農村戸籍という、事実上の身分制度によって、農村から都市への移住を禁止し、出稼ぎ労働者としてしか農村の人間の流入を認めず、収入の高い職業を都市住民に独占させていることが、格差を助長しています。
しかし、中国のケースは極端にしても、都市の方がビジネスチャンスが多く(収入も高い）、都市に人口が流入することによって、地方が疲弊する現象は、アジアの国々で一般的に見られる現象です。
また、日本でも都市と地方の格差はどんどん広がっています。先日、九州・沖縄でのアルバイト料は、大体５００円ぐらいだと聞きました。これは、職種によるでしょうが、東京の半分近い低水準です。
グローバル化ということは、各国の経済が一体化するということですから、もっとも合理的に収益を上げることが出来る場所に、国境を越えてビジネスが集中します。
ですから、自動車の部品のネジを締める仕事の値段は、ある程度の期間の間に、中国でも日本でもほぼ同じ水準になります。
逆に、金融・デザイン・企画などの仕事も、人材と情報の集積した東京・シンガポール・香港・などに集中し、これらの仕事の値段も、同水準に収斂していきます。
ですから、より低コストで生産出来る地域(国）が海外から工場を誘致するように、より効率的に高品質のサービスを提供できる都市が、海外からビジネスを獲得する競争が今後激しくなります。
香港も、その都市間競争に参加しているわけですが、中国へ返還された後の一時期と比べると、精細を欠く感じがあります。ここ数年、中国大陸(上海・深セン）の株式市場が不調で、主要IPOのほとんどが香港市場でおこなわれているのですが、逆に中国大陸・中国政府への依存度が高まり、それが｢自由度の減少｣となってマイナスの影響を与えているのかもしれません。
それに対して、最近再び躍進しているのがシンガポールです。
リー・クアン・ユーに率いられて、地図上では豆粒ほどの国ながら、驚異の発展を遂げた国ですが、上海・東京・香港などと違って、自国の巨大市場を持たないことから、熾烈な都市間競争に対する意識も高く、海外から金融をはじめとするサービス産業を引き寄せるノウハウに長けています。
ちなみに、長い間禁じられてきたカジノも、２００９年からシンガポールで合法化されます。
カジノが合法化されている国は世界で１３０カ国ですから、日本のようにカジノを禁止している国は少数派です。
