巨大合併劇が決着、「ミタル帝国」さらに拡大 - ルクセンブルク

色々なセミナーで、参加者の方々に質問をするのですが、「世界一の金持ちは誰？」という質問に対しては、ビル・ゲイツという答えがよどみなく返ってきます。先日、ロータリークラブの社会奉仕プログラムで、都内の某都立高校の特別授業を受け持ったときも、ほとんどの生徒がその答えを知っていました。
ところが、「世界で２番目の金持ちは誰？」という質問に答えることのできる人はほとんどいません。それは、世界的に有名な投資家のウォ-レン・バフェット氏です。同氏は、基本的に、株式の投資だけで財産を築いたスーパーマンですが、一般の知名度はもうひとつのようです。
ましてや、世界で３番目の金持ちを知る人は少ないでしょうが、その人こそ、今回の合併劇の主役であるミタルスチール会長のラクシュミタル氏です。
三人に共通しているのは、仕事の虫で世間で言「遊び」をしないことと、家庭を非常に大事にする点ですね。
銀座や六本木で遊び歩いている社長達からは、残念ながら世界的な資産家は生まれないのかも知れません。
ちなみに、２００６年版のフォーブ紙のランキングでは、同氏は前年の３位から５位に落ちてしまいました。返り咲けるかどうかは、今回の合併が成功できるかどうかにかかっているわけです。
以前、自動車業界では、「４００万台クラブ」という言葉が流行って、４００万台以上の生産台数がある自動車会社だけが世界的再編の中で生き残れるというような話が流布しましたが、結局生き残ったのは、単に生産台数が多いところではなく、日本勢（それに韓国）を中心としたクォリティーの高い自動車を着実に製造しつづけたメーカです。
もちろん、自動車と違って、鉄鋼は一般消費者ではなく、メーカーが購入するものですから必ずしも同一視は出来ませんが、今回の買収劇がなり敵対的要素を含んでいたことは大いに気になります。コントロールの効かない、恐竜にならないことを祈ります。

ちなみに、１０位の李嘉誠氏は、本プログでも採り上げたＰＣＣＷ会長・李氏の父親で、香港最大の財閥・長江グループの総帥です。
