ツールではいいとこなかったけど
＜自転車レース ドイツ・ツアー＞グセフ プロローグを制す - ドイツ

ツール・ド・フランスではヒンカピーがマイヨジョーヌを着て、ポポヴィッチがステージ1勝をあげたディスカバリーチャンネルだが、やはり昨年までの活躍からするといいところがなかったという印象が強い。
しかし、ツールの裏で行われたレースでは、トム・ダニエルソンやウラジミール・グセフが活躍をみせていた。ダニエルソンはツール・ド・オーストリアで総合優勝を決め、グセフはザクセン・ツアーで総合優勝を果たしている。
今年のツールではディスカバリーチャンネルは平均年齢が最も高いチームだった。多くの経験を持っているチームだったが、勝利に対するどん欲さを感じることはなかった。おそらくエースはアゼヴェドだっただろう。ピレネーで総崩れした日、アシストとしての走っていたポポヴィッチはチームメイトに不満をもらした。そしてポポヴィッチは翌日ステージ優勝を果たす。
今回プロローグを制したグセフはツール・ド・フランスに出る予定だった。それが直前のメンバーチェンジで外された。今の活躍振りはツールの鬱憤ばらしのように感じる。ドイツ・ツアーでの活躍が今後のステップに大きく影響しそうだ。
来季ディスカバリーチャンネルはエキモフが引退し、ライプハイマー、パウリーニョ、ヴァイクスの3人が加入する。若い選手も着実に経験を積んできている。ビッグチームだが決してスター選手だけを集めるチームではない。日本のエースを抱えるこのチームが今後のどんなチーム作りするか注目したい。
