世界選手権2006 U23男子ロード
＜06UCIロード世界選手権＞チオレック U-23男子ロードレースを制する - オーストリア
【ザルツブルク/オーストリア 23日 AFP】2006UCIロード世界選手権（2006 UCI Road World Championships）・U-23男子ロードレース（177.2キロメートル）。ドイツのゲラルド・チオレック（Gerald Ciolek）は、トップタイム4時間00分50秒をマークして優勝を飾り、金メダルとチャンピオンジャージのアルカンシェルを獲得した。(c)AFP/FRANCK FIFE
ドイツツアーでも豪快なスプリントをみせていたキオレックがU23ロードを制した。プロツアーで優勝経験があるだけに、凄まじいスプリントだった。
そして、日本は期待の新城幸也が14位に入った。ゴール後、本人は力を出し切れなかったと話している。しっかりと集団の前方をキープしていたが、展開には加わることができなかった。優勝を狙うのであれば、自らレースの動きを作りに行かなければ難しいだろう。去年も同じようなレースをしているだけに、本人も悔しかったはずだ。
そして、学生から久しぶりの参加となった三瀧光誠（鹿屋体育大学）が完走を果たした。本人は完走以上の走りを目指していたが、学生の経験値からすると完走でも評価のできる走りだったと思う。しかし、本人が言っているように、完走ができればいいという訳ではない。
海外で活躍し躍進する新城、学生でありながらここまで走った三瀧、この2人の今回の成績は、将来への好材料になると思う。これをうまい方向に持って行くことができれば、戦える日本チームというのはそう遠い世界の話ではないはずだ。
※U23＝23歳未満。1984年1月1日生まれから1987年12月31日生まれまでの選手が対象。
