TOJ #3 南信州
5月17日長野県飯田市で行われたツアー・オブ・ジャパン第3ステージの南信州ステージ。このステージは上りがきついが、その後の下りが長く、なかなか差のつかないステージ。最後は15人のゴール勝負になり、リーダージャージを持つユニバーサルカフェのダニエレ・ディヌッチがスプリントを制した。
序盤から逃げが決まるもリーダーチームのユニバーサルカフェは落ち着いて集団をコントロール。中盤、チームバンの新城幸也、福島晋一がコニカミノルタの選手とアタックし動きを見せるが、ユニバーサルカフェは大阪、奈良で逃げまくったライヴィス・ベロフォシスクがほぼひとりでこの逃げを吸収。凄まじい仕事量をこなした。
ラトビア出身のベロフォシスクは1998年マペイでデビュー。その後ランプレで活動。ツール・ド・スイスやドイツ一周の個人TTでステージ優勝の経験を持つ。現ラトビア個人TTチャンピオン。
このステージ、チームバンが攻めに出たが、ユニバーサルカフェには全く歯が立たなかった。富士山ステージで頼れる存在がいないチームバンにとってはこの南信州での攻撃は「must」だったに違いない。
一方、個人総合3位につけているスキル・シマノはこのステージは特に動きは見せなかった。次の富士山で、土井雪広、狩野智也の2人には個人総合逆転の期待がかかる。
匠も徐々に調子を取り戻してきているだけに、富士山ヒルクライムTTには期待ができそうだ。
