TOJ #4 富士山
5月19日に富士あざみラインで行われたツアー・オブ・ジャパン富士山ステージ。このステージは個人タイムトライアルといって1人ずつ走ってタイムを競う競技。
コースは11.4kmで標高差1200mを上る山岳コース。ヨーロッパの超級の峠と比べても遜色ない上りだ。
雨の中行われ、昨年このステージ5位だったジョンリー・オーガスティン（コニカミノルタ）が2位に1分以上の差をつけて優勝した。奈良、南信州ステージで遅れた分で、個人総合逆転はならなかったが、見事な走りだ。オーガスティンは1986年生まれの南アフリカ人で、まだU23カテゴリー。こらからが期待されている選手で、今後の活躍に注目しておきたい。
そして、南アフリカはアフリカと言えど、ほとんどヨーロッパの一国といった感じだ。現在UCIプロチームにはロバート・ハンター（フォナック）がいる。またUCIプロコンチネンタルチームのバルロワールドは元南アフリカ登録のチームで、ライアン・コックスやデーヴィット・ジョージなど、UCIコンチネンタルサーキットで活躍している選手が所属している。
今回のオーガスティンの活躍を見るに、この選手たちに続く若い選手が育っているということだ。日本より一歩先行く、南アフリカ。日本も追いつけ、追い越せ。
で、日本ナショナルチームのプレゼンテーションがツアー・オブ・ジャパンの東京ステージ終了後、表彰ステージで行われるということです。さっき連絡が着ましたので、お知らせしておきます。

明日の東京ステージを観戦に行こうと思っています！
ナショナルチームのプレゼンテーションがあるんですね、それも楽しみ。
実は生でレースを見るのは初めてなので、ドキドキです☆
