年々暑く、過ごしにくくなる夏

■迫りくる温暖化の恐怖
立秋はとうに過ぎたというのに、この暑さは何なんでしょうね。
日本では連日の猛暑が続いていますが、これはヨーロッパや
アメリカでも同じで、北の国であるロシアでも連日38度を超す
暑さだとか。やはり地球は確実に温暖化への道を歩み続けて
いるということなのでしょう。
これはここ数十年の間に私たち人類が進めてきた無分別な工業化の
結果ともいえ、私たちの世代が歯止めをかけないければ次の世代か、
その次には多くの動植物が生きられないような地球環境になって
しまっているかもしれません。
■夏向きではなくなってしまった日本の住宅

話は変わりますが、先日TVを見ていたら、日本よりずっと暑いはず
の国、イスラエルから日本人男性のもとへ嫁いできた女性が、
「私の国は暑いけどカラッとしている。日本は湿度があるから
とても耐えられない」と言っているのを聞きました。
高温でそのうえ多湿というのが日本の夏の辛いところなわけですが、
これに加えて日本の住宅は狭く密集したところに建っている。
しかもいつの頃からか、日本では夏より冬の寒さを意識した
高気密高断熱の造りになってきてしまった。
密閉した空間でがんがんエアコンをかければ、確かに中にいる人は
快適かもしれないけれど、室外機から排出される暖気は外を
さらに暑くするし、それは地球温暖化にもひと役買っているわけです。
昔の日本家屋の造りを見れば明らかなように、本来日本の住宅は
夏を意識した低気密な造りであるべきで、初めからエアコンが
なければ生活できないような家にしてしまうのは間違いなのでは
ないかという気がします。
■犬たちにも辛い日本の夏
ところで、先のイスラエル人女性の言葉にもありましたが、
自分の生まれ育った地域の気候風土とまったく違った環境で
暮らすのはけっこう辛いことですよね。そしてそれは
動物たちにとっても同じ。とくに犬はアイルランドとか
イギリス北部とか、シベリアとか高山地帯とかを原産とする
犬種が多く、ゆえに厚い体毛や耳の中にまで被毛がはえている。
寒冷地での暮らしに耐えられるようになっているわけです。
こうした犬種を日本のような高温多湿の国に連れてきて
飼うということがどういうことか？
ちょっと考えれば彼らが日本の夏をどんな思いで過ごして
いるかわかろうというものです。
生まれ故郷である寒冷地や高地の気候風土に合わせて
つくられてきた彼らの身体の構造は、たとえ彼らが
日本で生まれ育った子孫であるにしても、一朝一夕に
変わるものじゃない。できればそんな犬たちを都市部の
狭い部屋で飼うのはやめにして、繁殖や飼育環境にも
制限を設けていくべきというのが私の持論なのですが、
それが無理ならせめて風通しがよく、夏場過ごしやすい
家に造り変えてほしいものだと思います。
