犬の肥満！アメリカでもどうやら深刻な問題になっているようです。
日本でも肥満対応用のフードやサプリメントが花盛りですが、
これはいったいどんな意味があるんでしょうね。
犬は人間のように好きなときに好きな物を食べられる立場に
ないわけですから、肥満が気になるなら「食べさせなければよい」
だけの話ではないでしょうか？

ようはいま食べさせているフードの量が多すぎるか、フード自体の
栄養量がその子にとって過多であるということなわけですから、
結論は「量を減らす」か、フードの「栄養を抑えればいい」と

もちろん、朝夕の食事以外に間食のおやつをしょっちゅう
あげるというのもご法度。

こんな単純な話なのに、どうしてダイエット薬（薬は使い方しだいでは
毒ですからね！）や肥満対応食などを使わなければいけないのか？
そこには、どうあっても犬の食事はドッグフードでなければならない
という「大前提」が見え隠れしているように思えてなりません。
多くの飼い主たちは、AAFCO（米国飼料検査官協会)が定めた犬の必要栄養量
の基準を数字上満たした「総合栄養食」のフードから、手づくり食に
切り替えるとき、「栄養バランスが崩れて病気になる可能性がありますよ」
「手づくり食は難しいですよ」という獣医さんの言葉に脅かされて
二の足を踏んでしまいますが、そんなことは決してない。
■毎日毎日、同じものを食べさせることが不自然
毎日同じメニューならそんな不安も多少はあるかも知れませんが、
あれこれいろんなものを与えているうちに、１週間なり10日なりで
栄養のバランスは自然に摂れていくものです。
現に人間はそうやって生活しているし、かつて自然界に生きていた犬たちも、
そうやって不都合なく生きてきたわけですからね。
犬のダイエットブームは、裏を返せばアンチ・ドッグフードブームへの
第一歩にすると……。それがこの記事の正しい読み方だと思います。
