マイクロソフトのポータブルデジタルプレイヤー「Zune」がアメリカでは発売が開始されたが、未だ発売されない我が国では、触ったこともないはずなのに、多くの人にイマイチ評判がよくないようだ。しかし、個人的にはこのプレイヤーはある意味、新しい次元の戦いの始まりなのかも知れないと思う。
＠無線LANでダイレクト接続
Zuneの最大の特徴は、無線LAN接続が可能で、オンラインショップにダイレクト接続して楽曲を購入できることにあるようだ。これはMacなりWindowsなりを経由してしか曲を購入、転送できない現在のiPodやその他のポータブルオーディオプレイヤーに比べれば、手間がかからないという利点がある。そもそも音楽を楽しむのにパソコンなんかいらないじゃないか！という人には受ける要因だ。
＠日本のユーザーに斬新に感じられない理由
しかし、我が国は世界一の携帯先進国だ。ワイヤレスでダイレクトに楽曲を購入できる携帯端末など珍しくないし、Auの「W41T」のように、ダイレクト楽曲購入ができ、ハードディスクを搭載した音楽携帯もある。こうなると、単にダイレクトに楽曲が購入できると言われてもたいした目新しさはない。何しろ、携帯電話なら音楽以外の付加機能もいろいろ搭載しているのだ。
＠携帯電話はすべてを飲み込む？
Zuneの商品コンセプトは日本ほどの携帯の音楽端末化が進んでいない欧米では、けっこう面白い商品として受け入れられるかも知れない。しかし、いつまでもダイレクト楽曲購入がアドバンテージであるとは限らない。携帯電話にデジカメ機能が乗るのも、最初は珍しかったが、今ではごく普通になっているのと同じだ。それにしても、携帯電話というデバイスがすべてを飲み込んで進化してくのは感心する。
＠文化はそれぞれ、人もそれぞれ
そんな理由で、携帯先進国の日本では、Zuneはあまり斬新に感じられない傾向があるように思える。しかし、結局は国内で発売されなければ、どうなるかわからないというのも真実である。これだけの携帯先進国でも、ワンセグのためや音楽機能のために携帯電話を買い換えたくないという人は珍しくない。人はすぐには変われないものだ。
