「スタートレック」のスコッティの遺灰、10月に宇宙へ - 米国

何だって料金の差というものはあるけれど、この場合の差は、打ち上げられてまかれるものの「量」か、それともまかれる場所の「高さ」か。それともAランクは、うやうやしく乗組員がかかえて、まあ外人だろうから「グッバイ」とでもささ
やいてくれた後、丁寧にまかれて、それ以外は、その場所についたとたん、バラバラと吐き出されるとかそういう「まき方」の差か。
父の葬式を出すさい、まだ二十代だった僕は、葬儀屋で少し立派なファミレスのメニューのようなものを前に広げられて、おどろいたことがある。
メニューには、各段階の祭壇および、それにプラスされるさまざまなオプションが、こまかな料金設定とともに、写真入りでのせられており、最初は何をどう見ればいいのかわからなくて、あわてたのだけれど、ようするに、金さえ出せば、場所、祭壇および、そのお飾り、仕出しのお弁当、坊さんの人数および衣装、焼く場所(ご存知の方はご存知でしょうが、焼き場での焼く場所においても、ランクがあるのです)等、すべては豪華になり、けちるととたんに貧相になるということが、しばらくするとすぐわかり、もちろん豪華になどできる金を持ちあわせているはずもないから、下から二番目くらいで手をうったのだけれど、今なら「わはは」と笑えるその「わかりやすさ」に、まだ若かった当時の僕は、少しへこんだものである。
それがあるから、以来「死んだあとはどうなと好きなように」と、思うし、いうようにしている。
死んだらすみやかに必要最低限の処理をしてもらって、ま、あとは風の強い日にでも、どこか風あたりのよいところに置いといてもらっていい。少し気持ちがあれば、どこかへ出かけたさい「ここいい」と思う場所に、内緒で「サラサラ」と、まいてくれたりしても、それは「そちら」のいいようにしてくれていい。ほんとうは反則なのだろうけれど、あんなもの、少しずつならみつかるはずもないし、焼ききっているのだから、においもないし、大して害もない。
ようは、のこされる側に気持ちの負担をかけないというのが大事で、丁寧にしてくれるのならそれはそれでもいいけど、そうじゃなくたって、全然かまわない。それでなくとも、この国はせまいのだから、死んでまで「場所」を取る気もないから、お墓など無用である。
「そんなミもフタもない」と、のこった側が思うのであれば「ミもフタもあるように」してくれていい、しょせん、僕の死後の「いろいろ」など、すべては生きてる人の範疇なのだから。だけど、しなくてもいいと、意思表示しておくことがとても大事なのである。「ほんとうはちゃんとしてほしかったに違いない」と思わすことを「ごめんこんなに貧相で」と、思わすことだけは、とにかくさけなくてはいけない。
しかしこれは「のこされる人」がいるという前提であり、いなけりゃもっと話は簡単で、保健所あたり(よく知らないけれど)が「無縁」ということで、どうにかしてくれるのだろうから、それでいい。
ま、今後どのような展開を見せるかは、もちろんまだ神ですら知らず、なのだから、こんなところで、あわててそこまでまとめなくったっていいのだけれども、そうゆっていい忘れて「あちら」へ向かう人も多いから、おりにふれまとめておくのも、いい。

私も20代の時に父を亡くしていますが
親戚から、初七日はこの位のランクのお料理にしないと…
と、食べられもしない量の懐石料理を選ばされたのを思い出しました。
家族は葬儀のことで慌ただしく
アレコレ決めなくてはいけないので悲しむ時間も無い…
終わったら終わったでアレヤコレヤ…
お香典返しも一苦労。
そうそう、葬儀屋さんの靴下に
履く時に気づくであろう大きな穴が２つあいていたのが可笑しくて
悲しみも極致へくると、そんなことで笑いが止まらなくて
こらえるのが必死でした(笑)
あ…でもとってもいい葬儀屋さんでした…念の為。
生前葬…これってどうなんでしょうね…

わたしも山下さんやkikiさんと同じく、２０代で父を亡くしました。
祖父や祖母の時もそうでしたが、人って死ぬとこんなに小さく見えるものなのか･･･縮むのか？と不謹慎ながら思ったものです。
うちは田舎で、当時葬儀屋さんも普及してなかったので、隣組の人達がお料理を作ったりいろいろやってくれ、全部近所のお寺で行いました。祖父や祖母の時は式も会食？も自宅でやったのですが、築１００年超の古民家は、参列してくれた人達の重みに耐え切れず、部屋の床が抜けかかるとゆう事態になったのを子供心に覚えています。
今は田舎にも葬儀屋さんが普及し、セレモニーセンターもでき、隣組などの手伝いもかなり軽減され、お葬式もメニュー式である意味「楽」なものになってきてます。
でも、その分「お金」が物を言う。戒名とかもお金次第だし。
（焼き場にもランクがあるとは知りませんでした！）
そう考えると、自分が死んだら焼くだけでお坊さんもなしで、遺灰は庭にでも撒いてくれればいいや、と思います。
いくら宇宙に関係しても、どこに関係しても、高額な料金を支払って関係先に遺灰を、とゆう気にはちょっとなれません。しょせんもう「灰」ですから。金銭にゆとりがあって、どうしてもこだわりがある人はそうすればいいけれど。
ただ「その時」の意思表示だけはしとかないと、と確かに思います。だって人間いつ死ぬか、死にたくなるかわからないものですから。
