ガキの頃から決まってそうだった。遠足、運動会、学園祭、体育祭。なんでもこうした行事の時には決まってピーカンだった。人の考えることなんかは天からすれば何でもお見通しだったのだろうか？俺はそういう行事が大嫌いだった。だから常に前の晩は雨乞いをしていたんだ。幼稚園の頃なんかは、絵本でシーツを被って部屋の中をドンドットどっとドンドットって言いながらぐるぐる回れば雨が降るなんていう物語を読んで、それとおなじようにグルグル回ってたなんてこともあったくらいに雨が降って欲しかった。でも決まって快晴。必ず開催を知らせる花火のけたたましい爆音で起きるハメになる。
でも、だからと言って雨が特別好きだったというわけでもなかったんだ。雨は降ったら降ったで憂鬱になったり、外に遊びに行けなくなったり、俺にとってはあまり良いもんじゃなかったんだけど・・・昨日の雨を部屋の窓から見ていて、何故だか心地が良かったんだ。
【匂ひ】
雨樋（あまどい）からザーザー降り雨が下にどんどん流れ落ちるくらい強い雨だった。シトシトなんていうほどお優しい降り方ではなかったし、窓を開けていれば室内に雨が入ってくる。目には、雨の線とでもいったらいいんだろうか、空から一直線に地面に向かって流れる線が映っていた。色彩上は白って表現されるのかもしれないけど、本当は何色でも無いっていうことを小学生の時に行った科学館でオッサンに教えてもらったんだよなぁ、なんて思い返しながら外をみていた。
誰かだったか、何かの漫画だったかは覚えていないけど、雨になると外が静かに聞こえるから好きだって。自分の中に自然とそういうのが入ってきた。これまでは、雨＝外に行けない、洗濯できない、ジメジメする。こんな悪いイメージしか持ってなかったのに、今日は違って捉えられている。学生時代には、参加したくなかった行事が中止になる為の理由で雨を求め、楽しみにしていた遊びに出るのが億劫な理由になった雨を疎ましく思っていた。雨頼みであり、雨嫌いであった自分の身勝手が嫌になった。
今はどうだろうか？雨であるから憂鬱になるのか？そんなこと考える余裕もなかった。雨だから～なんて理由で済まされることは、歳を重ねるたびに少なくなってきている。野球の雨天中止くらいなもんか。

だから雨を見てこんな気分になっている自分が凄く珍しかった。俺って変わったの？だとすれば真逆の快晴日和を見て何か違った感傷に浸るのかな？
読みかけの文庫本を手に取り、ソファで横になって読んでいたつもりだったが、いつの間にか眠ってしまっていたらしい。すっかり夕暮れ時になっていた。雨は上がっていた。
窓の外から見えた明るい空と黒い雨雲の境目。一つのターニングポイントのように思えた。
