リコール王・トヨタ 広告宣伝費＝“口止め料”も日本一

7月20日に国交省に提出された報告書ではクレーム（不具合件数）隠しも明らかとなり、いよいよ三菱に似てきたトヨタ。しかしマスコミは、同社が放つ年1,000億円超の広告宣伝費に懐柔され、死者が出るまで追究しないつもりだ。
◇8年間も危険なまま放置
トヨタは現在、米国法人社長のセクハラ更迭、リコール激増、そして刑事事件容疑（業務上過失傷害容疑）と、様々な問題が噴出しているが、マスコミが、トヨタや国交省から発表されたことをそのまま淡々と書くにとどめているのは、「口止め料」の効果というほかない。
なかでも消費者の立場から最も深刻なのが、トヨタの部長らが関与した容疑のある傷害事件だ。熊本県警は2006年7月11日、業務上過失傷害の容疑で、トヨタのお客様品質部長（55）、前・品質保証部長で現リコール監査室長（58）、前々任の同部長（62）の3人を、書類送検した。
この容疑者3人は、96年の社内調査で、前輪のかじ取り装置である「リレーロッド」が強度不足で、折れる危険性があることを知りながら、8年間にわたって対策を取らず、2004年8月12日に熊本県菊池市隈府の県道で5人が重軽傷を負う人身事故を発生させた疑いだ。
事故は、熊本市の男性公務員（当時21歳）が93年式のハイラックスを運転中、リレーロッドが折れて操縦できなくなり、対向車線の男性会社員（同32歳）の車と衝突。男性会社員と家族4人が、全治50～2日の重軽傷を負ったもの。
トヨタは、この事故の2ヶ月余り後、2004年10月26日になって、88～96年に製造された同車約33万台についてリコールを届け出たが、「もっと早くリコールしていれば、事故も起こらなかった」というのが県警の見解だ。実際、社内調査後の96年3月には、強度を増した部品に、こっそり変更している。それ以前に製造された部品は、8年間もの間、危険なまま、放置されていた。
◇報道されないトヨタの家宅捜索
朝日新聞（2006年7月12日）によれば、「県警が本格的な捜査を始めたのは、事故から約2カ月後の2004年10月。トヨタが国土交通省にリコールを届け、事故と部品との関連について疑いが浮上してからだった。2005年8月に捜査本部を立ち上げ、同社を家宅捜索して資料を押収するなどした」。
毎日新聞（2006年7月12日）でも、「県警は、同社が事故後の2004年10月にリコールしたことを受けて捜査を開始し、2005年8月にトヨタ本社を家宅捜索し、多数の書類を押収した。同社の文書保存期間は5年間だが、実際にはそれよりも古い文書も保存されており、早い時期に危険性を認識していたことが裏付けられたという」。
つまり、実はトヨタ本社には、家宅捜索が入っていたのである。トヨタクラスになると、これ自体がニュースであることは疑いがないが、もちろん、この事実は当時（2005年8月）、主要メディアで、まったく報道されていない。
有料データベース検索によって、少なくとも朝日新聞・毎日新聞・読売新聞・日経新聞では、一文字も報道されていないことが確認された。
朝日記事にあるように「捜査本部」が立ち上がるほどの大事件となれば、記者クラブ詰めの大手マスコミ記者が気づかないはずがない。家宅捜索の件も、夜回り取材が恒例化している以上、知らなかったとは考えにくい。知っていて何らかの圧力で書かなかった、としか考えられない。まさに、口止め料の成果というほかないのである。
◇11件ではなく実は82件 嘘をついてもトヨタには甘い
しかもトヨタは、2004年10月にリコールした際、国内で起きた部品の破損は2000年から2004年の計11件だった、と国交省に報告していた。しかし、2006年7月20日に国交省に提出した報告書では、実は2004年10月までに82件（国内46件＋国外36件）の不具合情報があったことを明らかにした。
トヨタは、嘘をついていたのだ。これを受け国交省は21日、業務改善を指示したものの、その程度で、本当に、深刻な問題への発展を防げるのか。
「クレーム（不具合件数）を隠し、本来、届け出るべきリコールを遅らせた結果、人身事故を発生させた」という点で、構図としては三菱自動車と全く同じ、悪質なものである。ハンドルがきかなくなる重大な欠陥であり、たまたま死亡事故にならなかっただけで、深刻さは三菱のブレーキ故障と、なんら変わらない。
しかし、当時、連日のようにリコールと関係なく炎上した三菱車の映像まで流してバッシングを続けた三菱自動車のケースに比べ、トヨタには甘い。実際、これらを受けての調査報道など、まったくといってよいほどされておらず、トヨタに対する安全性の追究もしない。日本一の“口止め料”のなせる業であろう。

自動車屋さんはメディアに力があるようですね。
本田技研も今年に入り短期間で２回もリコール遅延で国土交通省から改善指導を受けてますけど、誰も知らないようですし。

そこではクレームの記録を残してはならないということでした。（勿論そんなこと社内文書にある筈ないです）
会社内にはメモでも残すなということです。
全て無かったことにします。
（その代わり各自がノートに記録は残しています）
今もやってるでしょうね。

CMを流している民放は広告料に弱くても
仕方がない（と言っていいのか？）ところもないではないですが、
トヨタはさすがと言おうかＮＨＫ理事にトヨタ専務を就任させる
ようなこともしてますね。
リコールそのものは悪いことではないと思います。
軽微な欠陥をすばやく対応すれば、むしろ良心的なﾒｰｶｰだと
思います。
でもトヨタの場合は命に関わる重大な欠陥でも
平気で隠蔽・放置。
トヨタは人命をなんだと思ってるんでしょうね･･･。
