年末から、年始の休みにかけて公開された
NYで話題となっている最新映画の話をしてみよう。
現在全米の劇場公開の売り上げが一番となって話題
となり、最高に盛り上がっているのが、
ナイト アットザ ミュージアム -Night at the Museum-
コメディ俳優として大変人気の高い、スター
ベン スティラー Ben Stiller が主演している。
この映画は、性格がだらしなくいつもミスをして
首になってしまうラリーがやっと、仕事にありつき
ニョーヨークの自然博物館の夜の警備員となるのだが、
いわくつきの仕事で、この博物館では夜になると、
展示されたものが生き返って、色々なことが起こる。
そして映画は、奇妙な展開となっていくのだ、、、
この映画、見た感じこじんまりとまとまっていて、
大掛かりなセットを使った様には見えなかったが、
最新のコンピューターCGの技術をうまく使っているようで、
これが大変素晴らしく、これだけでも、一見の価値ある作品だ。
脇役では、往年の喜劇俳優、デック バン ダイク、ミッキー ルーニー、
それにロビン ウイリアムス達が加わった、いわゆる抱腹絶頂と言える
コメディ映画で、文句無く大人も子供も楽しめる。
ロビンウイリアムを見ていて感じたが、彼が主演した映画、
ジュマンジを思い出させてくれた。
とにかく、面白く、大ヒットしている。
NYやLAの大都市は、IMAXの大スクリーンで
上映されているので、また、今度IMAXで見に行こうと思っている。
日本でも是非公開したら見てほしい。
実は、私は、以前、この映画に主演しているスターの
ベンス ティラーは昔彼が俳優として駆け出しの頃
NYで出会ったことがある。
彼、今回、博物館の夜の警備の役だが、
彼がまだ映画俳優として本格的にデビューする前の９１年の冬、
私がプロデュースして、ニューヨークのミートマーケット
にオープンさせた、 マルチフ ロアーのナイト クラブ ー
マーズで、セキョリティー警備として
ダンスフロアーやバーを見張る仕事をしていた
ことがある。
これは、ベンス ティラーが俳優を始めた頃の話だが、
当時のマーズのナイトマネジャーが俳優上がりで、
そのマネジャーの友人として紹介され、
ある日警備の仕事のインタビューやってきた。
当時の警備と言えば、大抵大柄でとにかく強そうで、
見た感じも怖そうなキャラクターが多かったが、
彼は、人当たりの良さそうな、穏健な印象が感じられ、
小柄で背もそれほど高く、何となく弱そうで
特別これといった強いキャラクターが感じられず、
警備としては、どことなく頼りなさそうだった。
取りあえず、大丈夫かなと、考えていたが、
本人が、真面目な顔で、自分は空手が出来て、
黒帯を持っていると言って、クラブで 何かあっても、
人の扱いは慣れていて、問題ないと言っていた。
それに、現場サイドのマネジャー連中からも、
強い推薦があったので、その場で彼を採用する事にした。
クラブで仕事をしている彼は、結構頑張っていたようだ、
それに当時からヒョーキンな性格で面白かったらしく、
バーの客や、クラブの女性客の間で人気者になっていた
だったようだ。 まさか、こんなに成功して、
ハリウッドのスーパースターになるとは思っていかったのだが、
人って本当に分からない物だ。
まあ人生それが面白いのだが、、、、、
因に、当時、今のハリウッドのスターや有名アーティスト達
が売れなかった頃、NYのクラブやバーでバーデンダーや
ドアーマン、などの仕事を周りでしてた。
シンガーのシンディロッパーは昼間日本のレストランで働き、
夜は、商社マン相手のピアノバーでバイトしていた。
映画俳優のブルースウイルスは、私の友人のカークのチェルシーの
ナイトクラブで、バーテンダーをやっていたし。
グラフフィティアーティストとして、世界的に有名になった
故キースハーリングは知り合いのスティーブマスが経営していた、
マッドクラブでドアーマンをやっていた時がある。
今も、NYのトレンディなバーやレストランでは、未来の有名人が
ゴロゴロしていそうだ。実は、そこがNYの面白いところで、
本当にこの街は、いつ誰に何があるか分からないのが魅力。
最近公開された、映画の話から、随分それてしまった。
渡辺謙が主演したクリントイーストウッドの映画
硫黄島からの手紙が公開されて、今回NYでの公開の話も
取り上げようと思っていたのだが、ここまでで
大変、長くなってしまったので
これは、次回取り上げる事にしたい。
